Does anyone have experience with the spiderwire XXX Super Mono? It was on sale at C-Tire today so I grabbed a spool of the 6lb to test out. It seems like it is more wire like than typical mono with more memory but is very thin and sensitive. I was thinking of putting it on an ice reel for eyes and panfish, maybe even push my luck going for lake trout with it.

used to use spiderwire fusion years ago, i think they stopped making it or changed the formulation and name.

I used to use the 8lb for ice fishing and the 20lb for my cat rods. Those were the 2 weights I buy in bulk. I never really had much peroblem with the line. I landed my best walleye with that line. A 13.5lb 32" beauty

If I need to save some money, Stren Original is a good option. It performs well for the price. If you want a better performing 6lb mono, try Suffix Elite. It is only a buck or two more than the Spiderwire XXX for the same spool size and a lot better quality IMO. For bigger diameters (8lb +), try Trilene Big Game. I use that stuff the most. A 1/4lb bulk spool does not break the bank and has all the qualities a good mono should.

topwaterjoe : Thanks man I've never tried Sufix mono, I'll have to give that a shot.

Never tried spiderwire mono. I usually just throw on the Trilene XL smooth 6lb in clear. Cheap, firm and tough enough to twist your line around a lighter and yank yourself off snags. Not having any visibility issues that I know of lol.

That being said, change is fun... so NADO don't hesitate to share how it works out haha.

p.s. vanish 6lb clear sucks no one should ever use it.

Hard to say anything bad about XL at $4/filler-spool...

Hello Nado
So I wouldn't be worried about the Spiderwire XXX mono I've used it and have been happy with it but I'd worry about buying line from Canadian Tire....have made that mistake way to many times.

I've personally used the 4lbs test xxx mono on a light rod for panfish and small bullheads. Casts nicely, memory is pretty low. It is rather prone to wind as far as twisting and birds nesting though. I'd buy it on sale, I've never lost anything to a snag while using it. Had a duck swoop over it and cut it though.
