spinnerbaits

Now I know you got more info on Spinner baits than me as you build em but I tend to disagree with

"important when finesse fishing for bass because this actually prevents line-tangles"

I found that using a spinner bait with an eye loop in fact reduces tangles, so I'm going opposite of you here.
See that's why I went to Eyes because of fineness too many times it screwed up on the first drop through hole.

Each to there own eh!

And then if I think about the finer point of business it seems it would be faster and cheaper to eliminate the eye twist so paying some Pro to say so might just cut your cost in the long run, Just my thoughts.

yeah lol I guess it depends on your own experiances, with me tho I found that I got way more line tangles with the v-shaped spinnners vs the smaller r-bend baits that I make, most of last year I was trying to figure out that problem. For a while it was driving me nuts lol, especially at the islands ;D This annoyed me so much, I took the baits to a local pond to try & figure this out in shallower waters, watched carefully on initial fall & reel-ins, also did some drop tests to see how they fall, thats when I finally realized/convinced myself, that on the R-bend frames, the blade arm is much higher pitch/angle than a V-shaped framed blade arm, which is why i kept on getting these damned line tangles on like 1 out of 6 casts on the intial cast when I would it fall. Either that, or it could've been the blades I was using were too heavy. I noticed the bait would dive head first straight down, and the blades would begin to helicopter into my line & leader like a blender !! which is why I kept getting line-tangles/foul-ups, so I was noticing the lure would fall vertically rather than horizontally on occasion, again its either the fact blade arm is more closer to the body then r-bend frames or it could also be that the blades I was using were too heavy.

To each their own, I'll usually just tell people, use what you feel most coinfident with, thats all that really matters anyways

One note: The Blades should never be able to reach farther back than the end of the hook else YES it will get your line.

Something I read somewhere!

Snypa - What do you think about spinnerbaits made from titanium rather than stainless steel; do you think they last longer and are they more durable?

Do they even make titanium spinnerbaits? wouldn't they be very expensive?

Terminator Spinnerbait available at LeBaron for 8.54. Made from Titanium and is suppose to last longer and never need tuning. I'm trying to get some feedback if it is worthwhile to spend the extra money.

Even with titanium, you will eventually have to replace the skirt I would assume.

Yeah, I would agree with that, but in the long run if it's just skirts that you need to replace, then would be less expensive. Knowning me, the first cast after getting one of these expensive lures, I would snag it on a log.

LOL, losing a $9 spinnerbait would definitely hurt!

Put it into perspective... a bag of senkos can cost up to $9. How many fish can you catch on 1 bag of senkos? How many fish will you catch on a spinnerbait before you lose it? I would think that the $9 spinnerbait will be a better value in the long-run.

BUT.... it also depends on how effective the $9 spinnerbait is. Not all spinnerbaits are created equally.

That's true. Speaking about senkos, I have been trying to figure out a way of getting them cheaper than the 9.00 that bps charges. The idea I had was calling Gary y's office and having them shipped by Fedex or UPS to their depot in Niagara Falls and going to pick them up down there. If you bought a hole bunch of stuff, it might be worth while.
If we use strike king as an example, they make a good spinner bait for 2-6 dollars. After a while the lure gets scratched and banged up, so maybe even if the titanium would last longer, it maybe too beat up to be effective.

Titanium is a good material, bends back into place, although I've heard the opposite with regards to 90 lb. titanium leads w/ pike, buddy of mine had a fish snap off using one. Titanium is a premium metal so it does add to the overall price, if you like the qualities of a spinnerbait's blade arm that bends back into place, then you'll want titanium, if you like modifying the spinner blade arm (which some fishermen do) then you'll want to stick with the traditional stainless steel spinnerbaits.

had never checked this area of the forum out before....flying fishes...your lures are works of art....be proud.

Yama Senkos: e-bay or I prefer using the YUM dingers. IMO work just as well and last fish after fish.
YUM dingers are much cheaper

I'm new, so don't know what's really going on here. Do you make these spinners for your own use, or do you sell them also? If so, what are the prices? Thanks.
