I'm using lightweight fly rods, 3 & 4 weight. Their great for dries and short upstream casting North Country wets, but I can't negotiate getting my nymphs or streamers down deep with split shot.
It's just too difficult, casting with weight.
Just curious, what line weight everyone else is using to fish deep, and how deep most are fishing and with any success?
This my 2nd year of fly fishing, and can use any helpful hints on stream fishing deep.

you never use split shots and fly rod.... period.
either tie heavier flies with lead wire or
use sinking leaders with different sink rates. they are rated at inches per second

oh you might want to jump few weights up on to bigger rod to use nymphs and streamers.

I know most wets and streaners are made of heavier materials. They just don't get deep enough, say in a 4' pool.
Weighted leaders sounds like the answer.
Thanks for the feedback
