Spoon fishing for creek salmon

Any tips for how to fish spoons in creeks? Should you reel up the current? Or should you let it drift down-stream? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Play around with it and see what happens. I've had luck with small spoons and small rapalas on a retrieve down-current just fast enough to keep the action going and off bottom. Jigging deeper holes with a spoon can be effective too. An EGB is a good size and weight, but very expensive. Small flutter spoons are easier to keep off bottom and can be deadly too.
With salmon, you may want to try swinging the spoon and letting the current impart action so you can keep it in the strike zone longer. I doubt a down current retrieve would give a salmon time to react, and they're not likely to chase it very far.

Couple of books to look into. I found the one by Jed Davis helpful. I prefer spinners in rivers/creeks as I can maintain control of depth more easily and better control in general so you don't snag the fish. Use the current to provide the spin and to slow down your presentation.

I agree with spinners over spoons in the creeks. Spoon fishing is best suited for the piers and harbours. You could also try small crankbaits in the creeks.

I also agree with spinners over spoons. I've had lots of luck swinging them against the current over deep pools and along log jams. I find them less likely to grab down stream retrieves as you are taking it out of their strike zone much quicker in faster currents. This is more for steelhead though, not very experienced with salmon. Although i assume the tactic is quite similar.

flatfish are deadly, you can just hang them in the current, and they aggravate a fish enough to get a strike

Yes, flatfish/kwikfish kill it too, wobble it into the current and hold onto your rod for dear life. If your sight fishing with it make sure you wait to set the hook when you feel the fish and not when you see it take

yes, definitely hang on when fishing hardware for salmon, the strike with their entire body weight behind it, they strike to kill and rip it in half

Spoons are difficult to fish in creeks I would just use a nice spinner doesn't have to be anything too special,always get bites on rapalas too so that should do the trick. When I fish spinners and rapalas I retrieve at the slowest rate possible that still gives off full action of the artificial bait. But that's just my 0.2¢

It's costly to fish creeks with hardware...but bouncing them bottom and slow retrieve can get you some aggressive ones...just be very careful when doing it with other fishermen around with a different technique...it could get ugly.
