Spring Crappie!

Help Support Ontario Fishing Forums:

As far as I know, you do not have to pay at the Marina on Yonge St. ...Canal Rd from Yonge St, all the way west to the 400 hold crappie. You just need to find them.
I dont think any of the marinas allow fishing after 11pm....to many ignorant people making a mess when unsupervised....guys actually doing oil changes in the parking lot overnight and leaving used oil ect for the propety owener to dispose of!

With no repsect to the property and the owners; I dont blame them for shutting it down.
So, with that in mind, IF they do catch you fishing after hours...they definatley will deny you access in the future.

** One thing I do (so do many others)..when fishing on the riverbank, whether it is for crappie, perch steelhead or Carp, I bring a garbage bag with me and spend 5 minutes picking up trash. All it takes is 5 minutes to make a differnce.

Too many people leave their freakin' garbage behind... bugs me so much.

Good on you for actually caring about the environment and making a difference disspatcher.

There is no crappie in that little water along the Canal Rd.!!*
Look like there would be something but~

than again what do i know... disspatcher is the expert.

there is definitely crappie in there along the whole canal all the way to hwy 400. it's such a huge stretch of water though. covering all of it is nearly impossible. you have to time it right. if you're there when a monster school of crappies move in, you're gonna have a great day, but when they're not... sucks for you.

crappies congregate in large schools when migrating. and they will definitely move into any small channels in the spring for breeding purposes.

well thanc for all the info but ill try my luck as soon as the ice melts.

Keep an eye out on here, there are a few of us who live near by and can keep you updated.

If you see cars lined down the side of the road, the crappies are in!!!

Frozenfire is 100% correct.
They move in huge schools, usually if you get 2-3 you are going to get 25 more! (usually)
But it is all about timing for sure!!..oh and once you are there; the depth you are fishing at is crucial. Use a slip bobber and try differnt depths till you hit them! (all depends on water temp and clarity)

Meaning shoulder to shoulder, line crossing, no place to stand, no water to cast at, no relaxing, stress, feel like driving a boat across the lines, toss a huge rock, ice forming on rod guides = slip bobber not working well,,, etc... nothing but complains!

hehe just kidding. That sure is one guranteed sign of something in the water.

what would you guys say is a good depth?? 3ft - 5 ft? im trying small minowes when i go maybe some powerbait magets

It all depends on the water level. Sometimes at the Yonge St Dock you can pick them up at even 6'+!

Put the time in and you will find them, eventually. Just dont go with Mikey,... &*#@ is he a downer! :)

i think the season is stron from april but i want to go soon to maybe canal road or someother hot spot.
