Hey, my uncle has a small lake on his property in the bancroft area and wants to stock it with bass. My question is, is it legal to stock it? there are plenty of sunfish and minnows so that is not a problem.

I would check with the MNR.. I've heard it's illegal but never looked into it. Let us know what you come up with

I also would check with the MNR . I believe that it is legal but the MNR may have restrictions on where you have to buy the bass for stocking.

I dont see what the issue is if you want to stock a lake that is on your land.

Only issue I see, when people find out, good luck keeping them out......

I know of people that catch fish, about 10-20 at a time while they are young, keep em alive and throw them in thier waters. That 10 times a year I am sure might do something. This is down in florida and these are retention pond that the fish are relocated into.

just takes a phone call to local police to keep people off of your property

long as the lake is yours, on your property, you can do what ever you want with it, i know a few people that stock their own ponds, only thing ministry will want is to make sure you aren't putting invasive species into it, be it fish or plants

Sorry I should clarify, I think it might be illegal to catch a fish from a lake river etc.. and put it in your pond

Before you put any fish into a pond, public or private you must contact MNR and CFWIP and possibly other local authorities before doing so even if you own the land. There are a series of guidelines that must be followed when stocking. I have provided a link below to give you a general idea of what is required to transport and stock fish. I hope this Helps.
