Looking for some suggestions on strike indicators, what are some good ones out there. What are you all using. I have been looking at the New Zealand strike indicators. Any one here use them? I like the idea of no "S" bend in the line.

I really like Thingamabobbers, quick loop and you are good to go. Easily adjustable too.

Another favorite of mine is Bioglow (glow in the dark). I don't really use the glow in the dark feature, but I like the fact that it's almost white so it looks like a bubble to the fish. It's a putty so you can make it as big or small as you like depending on your right, and you can adjust it with ease.

Depends what purpose you want your strike indicator to serve. If you need it to double as a float and keep your fly off bottom, choose the bigger ones such as the thingamabobbers. If it's there merely to indicate a hit, use the small cheap ones artimus suggested.
I'm not sur about the New Zealand gadget; you can achieve the same effect by folding your line, inserting it up through the tubing, putting a piece of yarn in the line loop, and pulling it back through. You can also attach beads to your line this way with an elastic, enabling you to take them on and off without removing your hook.

the ones that i have are .75" long X .47" in diameter. i saw a similar product at the Canadian Tire in Belleville this time last year. 6 for $5 if i recall. they are easy to adjust and hard to lose. the most magical thing? they work as a strike indicator.

imho, strike indicators is a place that spending extra $$$$ does not equal more fish. beware marketing hype, and use the money saved for a coffee.

I don't really single hand, but some guys I know use these for high sticking etc. If I take my sh for pan fish I use the thrill style, with a rubber bead peg to hold it

you can use an indicator with a 2hander as well ;) doesnt look pretty but it works

normally i just use thingamabobbers with the pin cut off and just wrap a line loop once around the slot. easy to adjust and take on or off without wasting time. you will get kinks in your line with it but no permanent damage..

otherwise for keeping your line unbent i prefer the yarn indicators. not as easy to switch up or remove in a pinch but if i know im going to be drifting something all day and it doesnt have a lot of weight to it, yarn is the way to go for ease of casting/keeping your line nice. anything heavy the yarn becomes useless but its deadly for a single bead/egg setup

you can also cut down to yarn to a tiny size just to use as a subsurface indicator if the tip of your fly line is harder to see

I tried these this summer, skip's turn-on indicators:

They're buoyant, don't kink your line, and don't fly off the way football indicators do. I've chased so many football indicators right into the pool I'm trying to fish after they've flown off mid-cast. So the turn-ons and yarn are my favs.

Cheers guys.

Coldfeet that is how I nymph right now but not having too much success thought if I tired a indicator might improve my odds. But I will continue to try "naked".

stick with it bud. its rewarding to master. once you get the subtle line changes figured out you'll catch more then guys with a bunch of junk on their line.

not that ive mastered it by any means ;)

I have never tried using an indicator but then again, I don't fly fish too much...one thing I learn from some old timers are just pay attention to your line keep whipping and go fish somewhere 20 feet away...lol...

airlock strike indicators make thingamobobbers obsolete. All I use now are airlocks. It won't kink you're leader either. Awesome strike indicator
