What conditions (temp, water level, ice etc...) usually coincide with the sucker run? Is it usually during the first week of april?

depends on the weather if it warms up a bit more then by mid April they should be running.

On to another question were to the suckers all go during the summer?

i know last year it was mid april and rivers were flooded with them. can't stand these fish. lol for the opener u gotta tie half roe for trout and half for them

but they are pretty :) and you catch a lot of them, should be fun after such a long wait

They also taste half decent if you can get around the bones.

And the make exceptional cut bait for CC's

I'm guessing the Cat's take full advantage of the run, munchin' on any suckers that happen to get waylayed by any rapids, waterfalls or angry fisherman they encounter along the way.

Screw trout you can catch em all year..

Summer in the lakes..

Spring in River mouths..

Winter ice fishing..

Suckers you get just once (well in numbers anyway) :p

Does anyone know any popular rivers in southern Ontario during the Spring season where suckers are in large numbers? I know the Grand River in Dunnville and Port Maitland is a good spot. Anywhere else?

The Humber is usually full of them, probably the Credit as well

I went down to the river in London the water is very high and fast but I spotted a few suckers in a week or two they will be thick.

You can catch many in the headwaters of the rivers during summer.

I missed out last year, but the fish do get to decent sizes and will probably be fun on an ultralight set up..

I have caught almost 40 suckers in the last week and I think they are super fun on my ultralight, White suckers provide a good fight and I think they are great for kids because they can get pretty large and are simple to catch.

Was biking down by the Don today and saw a dude catching a ton of them, some looked to be in the 5 pound range, I thought they were carp at first. He was just using a worm and bobber. Fish are fish and catching them is fun!
