Hey guys, i need a little help... went out on Sat. and Sun. But all i caught were suckers.. 42 to be exact. Had fun using a float rod for the first time but i really wanted to hook up on some steels.
What would you do in this situation?
Would you head up river or down?
Any advice would really be appreciated,
thanks

PM Sent..I wanna know where I can get that many suckers!

Haha j/k you have some tips waiting in your mailbox.

Most of the steel will be heading back to the lakes now. You want to fish far up the creek or river as possible as Salmotrutta said to increase chances of getting into them.

depends which trib tbh.

locally here you dont want to go too far north as dams prevent many of them from getting too far, and also the fish are bedding fairly close to the lake.
witnessed many dozens on sunday. way further south then last year

but again depends on the trib. if its not blocked up at any point, yea go as far up as possible, but if not try below some dams(not too close but within rules)
also suckers dont jump ladders. not well anyways. so maybe move past a first dam if your trib has one and there will be a lot less of them

good luck brother. this time of year some spots are so thick with them you can walk on water, but they come in and go out rather quick

i was out east and was getting tons 1-3 km's from the lake, i was getting them in the same tribs 20-25 km's up river as well, i honestly caught more downstream and they were much more fresh and more willing to bite, begin the just came in from the lake and haven't seen hundreds of roe bags yet. There are still fish coming in and others are heading out, while others are still spawning. Up river i still got a bunch but there were a lot of bruisers and it wasn't as fun as getting a fresh little 4-5 pounder. Another plus to fishing up river is if you find the spots yourself and do a lot of searching, you will likely be the only guy there just the fish and you, this past weekend i was the only one there, then one guy came and left, i could easily grab the fish with my hand where i was fishing because they weren't pressured, you gotta work for those spots though. My advice is, find a river, locate some spots, drive to them and see for yourself you will likely see bows everywhere, there are tons around. On a side note, those dang suckers get through the dams somehow, its beyond me how but they're a huge pain in the a$$ especially when you get one on and it starts going under log jams and jumping just like a steel and you get all excited like a sucker lol.

I find that the fish are spread out this year. Fish spawning in upper stretches, dropbacks throughout, and fresh fish in lower sections. I think incredible fishing is to be had for some time still, provided the water temps stay cool.

What's so bad about suckers? They get big.. they fight pretty hard.. I just don't get the discrimination lol.... Sure they're not all sleek and sexy looking as a steelhead... But I'd take a 20 - 30 sucker day over a couple of steelhead... Guess it just me, but I like quantity.. .

you can easily get 15+ steelhead days right now, not too hard if you know what you're doing, they're biting like I've never seen before, suckers are ok but when you're after steelhead and the sucker starts taking you under log jams and stuff, you think its a steelhead, you get kinda pi$$y.
