Suggestions for Weekend Fishing Lodge

I want to take my son to a fishing lodge this weekend. I am looking for something not too far from Toronto and that will provide a guide and a boat for a weekend of fishing. We have all the rods and tackle, but now need to learn how to use them.

I was looking at leaving Friday night and fishing Sataurday and Sunday morning.

I am also looking for suggestions from people that have gone to lodges near Toronto, that were really happy with the vacation. This would be for my whole family and would be mostly 2 - 4 day trips. Thanks.

i think you are too early, most of the fish are out of season

I agree with efka, it's to early for most lodges and the only thing you might be able to fish for is Steelhead and Panfish. If you're looking for steelhead guided day trips close to toronto check out anglerspro.ca

Muskies Landing is about an hours drive and they get good crappie when the ice is out. muskeys.ca muskeys.ca/

Also I recomend West View Resort on the moon river but they start May 1st, good pike and walleye. 2.5 hour drive. contact info : anglerspro.ca/html/georgain_bay_accomodations.html

I also recomend kenlea.ca/ in point au baril. 3 hour drive

There are also some good resorts on Gloucester pool which is only about an hour away.

Thanks for all the information. It was really nice to see a reply and I will start checking out all the links.

I was thinking of just hitting a river or pond this weekend. I get the impression that only crappies are open. That's fine. The boy doesn't care what he pulls out of the water, as long as he can scream "FISH ON", every now and again. And, at the end of the day brag that he caught more fish than dad. Can someone confirm that this is the only fish open and give some suggestions for rivers or ponds. I was thinking either Humber River, Credit River or going to Lake Wilcox. But, I don't want to break any laws.

Then, I am looking for something once the season starts. I am going to check out the links provided. If anyone has any other lodges that they went to with their kids and would recommend it, please list them. THANKS AGAIN.

here are your options for this time of year:
if you are with a kid try barrie docks, easy access and tons of perch
scugog has crappie, but its night time fishing
and steelhead.... well you might not even see one at all.

Okay, I called Carolyn and trying muskey.ca this weekend.

Anyone know how to get to the Barrie Docks. Someone said that there is good perch fishing at that spot.

Thanks for all the information. Went yesterday, to Muskey's but no luck. Carolyn, had the Ministry staying there, and told us they tagged 300 pickerel the day before, but we didn't see any. It got windy and we left. We did have some luck at Lake Wilcox, but the wind started picking up and it was very choppy. Anyway, good day.

The Pickeral school up in that area and you can do very good if you find those very specific areas they hold in. Pickeral on the bay opens May 1st, Check the regs to be sure.

Now the wife and daughter want to come. Looking to leave Sat morning and stay until Sunday.

I will bring the rods and tackle, but want a guide and a boat. Please less than 2 hours drive.
