Hey guys anyone suggest rod, reel ,line setup for Switch and/or spey set up to be used in most southern rivers. Not sure I want to use a spey set up as I want the option for easier overhand casting, and nymphing at say at Bronte or other smaller waters.Ive been thinking an 11' 7 weight with a 8/9 reel, and at this point am in the dark about line type.Mostly interested in the setup as apposed to the manufacturer. Anyone out there using a setup on these river that you like?
Thanks

st croix has a nice switch rod i have there 11 8 wt wish i had of gone with a lighter rod but thats in the works i have heard echo are good rods as well at all boils down to what you want to spend

I have a TFO switch rod 8wt. Using the Rio switch line with it. Nymphing on it is awesome. Swinging flies though not the best but works well. Paired with a lamson konic 4 its actually pretty light. I can fish with it all day no prob. I mainly fish credit.

I use a rio switch line as well great line althlough I wish the shooting head was alittle shorter I have been thinking about going to a scandi tip system

I have St.Croix 11 foot 7 weight switch rod, with echo ion reel which a great reel for $99. Currently running a skagit set-up for swinging flies. Trying to decide what to get for a nymphing set up. I have thought about getting a spare spool with the rio switch line but wondering if a scandi setup would work.

Anyways I love the rod and reel set up with skagit head, although I didn't realize until after I used it a few times that its not the rio skagit short which I thought I was purchasing and being put on by the shop but rather its the iflight and its a little more difficult to cast than when I learning on the 20 foot head.
