drove to the grand in caledonia, nice area to fish.most anglers were fishing right up near the spill way. i was trying to flaot fish as well but ended up slipping and going in the water, didn't get my waders completely filled up but a good soaking anyway.my dumb ass decided not to use my wading staff lesson learned the hard way especially on a new river.phone survived the drink wallet was soaked guess i'll be using a ziploc bag with that stuff next time.conditions were a bit windy, cold, some clouds but sushine and the water was bit colored but when the sun was out completely in the afternoon the water was quite clear.saw to local fisherman bring a fish each home to enjoy, really nice looking steelhead one was 10# range and the other in the 5# pound range so jealous. anyway hoping to make it back to caledonia again to give it a try with some better results.

Man that sucks, i'm not surprised to hear that though. Up close to the dam is some of the scariest wading ive ever done. Some points get pretty deep and you are walking on odd shaped rocks and you sometimes have no idea if your next step will be too deep. I have never fallen at Caledonia but I have had a few close calls so I never bring my phone with me.

I actually took a dip myself this weekend too so I didn’t really get any fishing in. I decided to go out to some remote smaller Lake Erie tribs to do some hiking and find some remote spots that I can call my own. The brush on one side of the river ended up getting so thick that I had no choice but to switch sides or walk back through the brush that I had been trooping through for the past 15 minutes. I found what looked like the shallowest spot on the river and proceeded to cross. Mere feet from the other side I took my last step and sunk just past the top of my waders, panicked and splashed around and scrambled out of the water reaching into my waders and throwing my 2 week old Blackberry on the side of the river (got a little bit damp but luckily no water made it past the outer shell). Needless to say I was soaked and my day was done with no fish caught that day. Found a few decent spots though, ill be sure to go back again and this time I think I’ll start walking on the other side of the river.

Laughing with YOU, not at YOU! (Both of you guys)

If you havent slipped, or stumbled or run into some kind of Hazardous, Cold, Wet adventure ..... your not getting out and DISCOVING enough.

Sorry too hear about the soaking, but it does happen to the best of us.
Imagine if everything was always perfect, we wouldnt know how to appreciate anything.

Thanks for the share.
I really was laughing with you, thinking of how many times... things like that have happened to me.

ps: Last year, i fell into the WHIRLPOOL in Feb.
That was fun!

going in the drink is part of fishing  luckily when i slipped in it was during salmon season so it wasn't that cold outside. I simply took my shirt of and continued fishing  I feel bad for guys that that get wet when its cold then your whole day is ruined lol.

Ive fell in at Caledonia once.

It was over on the Mill side. Didn't know there was a 10 ft hole and walked right into it. lol.

Now I know better :)

LOL oh the joys of fishing, our addiction drives us to take risks that an otherwise sane person would not take...lol

10ft hole you say....maybe I should try the other side next time I go.

darn, it definitely sucks, but glad you're ok.

I saw someone fall into a creek I was fishing this morning, luckily he grabbed onto floating logs in the area as he fell into a pretty deep part.

i dont mind sharing with you..
cheers

Falling in can sometimes spoil your day (or worse), but sometimes it's just priceless.

I saw someone fall in the creek recently and I was laughing so hard for a good hour afterwards. I've had my share of wipeouts, once falling in completely off of a steep bank into a deep section of the creek, trying to grab a resident brown trout that I had caught (hadn't brought my net). I rarely wear waders and wasn't wearing any that time, got totally soaked, barely able to climb up the bank. Ended up landing the fish though!

Here's the aftermath, soaked jeans and all:

Thanks for reminding me of the hilarity! One more reason to love fishing..the bloopers.

Here's my story:

Fishing a nice run about 1.5 months ago, water was a bit low so I stood atop a beaver dam that looked abandoned because of low water levels... Was on top of it for about 10 minutes shuffling around, castings, changing roe bags etc...

Then, partway through a drift... Crack!

I went right through the gnarled mess of stick up to my abdomen. No warning, just dropped like a brick.

Took me a couple minutes to get myself back in order and outa the mess... My pin ended up free spoiling into a rats-nest of line so I lost about 50yds of line!

It's never a dull day on the creek!

Ps NADO: Erie tribs are hairy! Its a jungle down there! I know exactly what you were fighting with... It's good to go out there with someone who has fished it if you can.

LMAO, I recognize those shoes!
It's funny because I used to post alot of fish pics on another forum, then one day on a pier somebody came up and recognized because me of those mocs. Then on another pier somebody else points at my shoes and goes "dood, that's him"......repeat half a dozen times and I nuked all those pics at the source. The funny part is as soon as I saw your shoes I was like "OMFG I recognize those cogs" and tried to find a pic of my fish with those shoes that everybody else recognized......lol I nuked them all, except the worst one evah.

Hiding is a great personality trait for you.
Suits you well.

Not too many people LIKE YOU.

Ah Blair, thankfully in the new & improved Ontario Flosser Forums I can't actually see your chimp speech. I whacked you in the back of the head with my rod butt, I saw the white marshmallows you were trying to use as "bait" in the Whirlpool, I know who you are. There is a reason why you are the one who get's sand in their mangina. If you feel the need to take your ball away (again), STFU.

Hardware is working well for actual fishermen on the Grand, there is a metric buttload of trout in that system this season. And you don't need bait to catch them.

Thanks for the entertainment!

The matter is over, but just had to make a polite comment(s):

1. First of all - Thankyou Openfire! Unfortunately, there are those who choose to conduct themselves improperly. Fortunately there are consequences - Responsibility.
2. He was NOT (14) that is what he CHOOSE to put. If you read some of his previous posts he indicated going to Niagara (20 years ago) - Bronte Creek Mouth (20+ yrs ago)
I would hazard a guess that he was in his 40's. Just "Acted" like a child.
3. His profile also showed being a member for over 2 years without a SINGLE TOPIC. Yet his "Rep was at 32" Interesting? Do you possibly think he logged in under another avatar and gave
himself points? Certainly shows the "Character" and level of integrity.
4. "Some" of his answers were terrific and had good advice, HOWEVER ... if you are also going off the DEEP END and acting rude, crude and like an IDIOT every other post... is that acceptable?
Reminds me of the "SAD EXCUSE" that some use: "Oh... he only acts like that when he's drunk" .... I NEVER tolerate that!

Enough said.

Your the man blair

Moving back to the main topic, a wading staff is never unacceptable, especially on unfamiliar waters. A fall in the Grand wearing chest or even hip waders could be a death sentence. They fill with water, you can't get them off and the current just takes you. I used to help out on the water rescue on the Saugeen years ago and every spring there would be " Bloaters " as we called them and we would have to go out and tow a body to shore. More than once we towed in a body in waders. Nothing funny about it.

Alfie.
