Just got into tying my own flys (kinda) and here are some funny things I wish I know before hand:

1: Small Plastic Beads (AKA neckless beads) do not work very well on Flys
2: Super glue will stick to you more then the fly
3: Super glue unsticks in water (need nail polish)
4: Pom-poms from the dollor store get wet and sink, they do not work as a popper fly (hard to cast too)

I will post some pic of my (flys) soon as I get my camera back from a friend, some of them are (great) lol

Hate to say it but you only got 1/4 there. Craft beads will work as long as you match them to your hook, same with fly tying beads, you have to match them. Superglue is very sticky but does work wonders for some purposes in fly tying, and as long as its cured you should have no troubles with it unsticking underwater. Pom Poms won't work as poppers but the small ones work well as a cheap and quick egg fly (still not as good as yarn though) :)
