hey guys, i've fished my entire life but never for rainbow trout (actually all trout and salmanoids in general). Now i was thinking of heading up to the nottawasaga river real soon which has the "open all year" rule for steelheads and Im aware that this time of year is generally good fishing for them. I was planning on using mostly berkley powerbait dough and berkley's fake roe. I will try to do a report if I go. If there are any basic tips you guys can share with me to help land my first steelhead, i will appreciate it!

if you want to start drinking heavily and require antidepressants try it on a fly rod. the word skunk..redefined lol

keep the power dough at home, its pretty much useless outside of a stocked pond, stick to roe, worms and bugs for the most part
i'll take it anyways, might as well try it if i have it xD roe's awesome but its a tad pricey IMO :???:

Depends how much you fish but that is a decent amount of roe.

I would say focus on bags as well.

Also if you go on a cold/ugly day there won't be as many people

notty is a great river for fishing, but the guys are right and stick to the roe. It doesn't have to be My roe, just roe in general. also i would look into the water level the notty is a big river and when it goes up in the spring it really goes up!!!! and it will stay that way for awhile.

Ya but there's nothing like getting skunked on the fly!

very true, madriver was saying its still waaaay up from the weekend before

i was just suggesting yours since its a pretty good price right now, otherwise its like $5 for 10 bags

don't get me wrong I love that you suggested my roe, Just didn't want to plug it my self....lol It works great and your saving fish. Cant beat that.

you're wasting your time if you come up any sooner than.... next week lol.
the river is still up about a meter in most places and completely unfishable.

as for the "will this really last me a season" i strongly suggest that it certainly will. unless you're spinning up stupidly monster-sized bags, it will last you a long time. the fishheads stuff in particular uses a really nice cure and lasts a while so you can get alot of drifts on the same bag and the eggs dont turn white so quick. i tied up 6 dozen bags friday night and used.... 8 yesterday. even hooked 2 different fish on the same bag lol.

wow thanks guys! i'll try and get out reel soon (get it? REEL soon  hahaha i thought it was funny ) and try some roe. thanks again for all your suggestions! does anyone know if the steelhead are in their runs right now? does high water levels mean the fish are coming in to spawn? sorry for asking alot of questions, as i said im noob in the trout and salmon category

also one more question, how would i store the tied roe bags? just in the freezer or put them in a container and check'em in the fridge?

the steels run from from october to march, and start dropping in april, and gone by the end of may, water temp is a big factor in when they spawn, warmer water tends to push them to spawn sooner, remember fish are cold blooded, warmer=more active
