So after being sick for nearly I week I decided it was time to hit the water and try for some of the bows I was having delerious dreams about. That and I'm still itching for a brown.

Went to one trib that I had success on for about a week before, one that had been teeming with fish, fished it for 3-4 hours with no success. Walked almost the whole open section of stream, talked to maybe 7 fishermen and saw one whopping bow. During my walks I saw a nice float on a very large log in the same pool I saw the fish so off I went and climbed on the log and got it, I decided to get all the line too so some animal didnt get tangled in it. At the end of it was a fresh pink roe bag, I had run out of roe and been unsuccessful trying everything else under the sun. So I pinched the barb on the old hook and took the bag of and put it on my hook. (didnt want to use a size 6 hook of unknown origin)

I walked the stream for probably an hour after that drifting the bag numerous times, and nothing, didnt see a single fish.

So I decided to go to a different trib, parked in a new spot and walked to my favourite pool, water looked perfect.

Did a few drifts with the same bag and nothing, a fellow fisherman walked by and told me he had no luck, I let him know the same and that I just got here from stream x, which was dead.

As soon as he walked out of sight my float goes down, I set the hook and boom I've got a nice steelie. I chuckle to myself about my luck, this was about 5 minutes into fishing.

This was the result, he crushed the roe bag. Unfortunately as mentioned it was my only one, so for the next hour I got nothing. Still I cant complain about going 1 for 1 on a day where one trib proved hopeless, it sure made my day better.

*mental note: have to buy some roe and tie up some bags for the next trip*

That's funny, I did the exact same thing today, but I think we ended up going to different tribs. I got 3 bows at my next stop, but none as big as that one. I got that tiny salmon shortly after you left, I took a break for lunch and decided to try my luck at another trib. You explore, you score.

Always cool to get a fish on scavenged bait. Nicely done.

salmo, I see you recognized my rod and reel hehe :)

It was nice to meet you, again, I think we were talking about that gutted brown in that pool a week or two before that.

I ended up getting almost to the mouth, which in neoprene waders and just getting over a bug made for a sweaty hike there and back :S

I ended up heading a little bit west after that had some lunch at 2 and caught that bow shortly after. The pool was nice and shaded even though it was sunny so I think it helped.

I'm hoping youre right float, and the it picks up after that 4 letter white stuff falls tomorrow, will need something to cheer me up.

I'm new to Trout fishing and I've been doing some research and I don't think that the one fish I caught today is a Trout (on the right). Can anyone clarify this for me?

Chrome, not unless the water was up 4 feet on the willy. This was on a massive tree that goes across the river :) And if it was I want a refund, lol It broke in half today while I was trying to get my hook unstuck from an icesheet on the Credit today :D

Rdiep, I dont see any pictures, not sure what you are referring to?

Forgot to click attach...Here you go!

Maybe it's just the close up pic, but the fish on the right does look to have whacky proportions, almost like a pink salmon. I too would say male steelhead though. Have you got any other pics of it?

View attachment 8852View attachment 8853View attachment 8854View attachment 8835Since the last big rain we had , the fishing on the Notty has been tough to say the least .
Last weekend we fished for a day hiking up the river about 3 miles and back down again without as much as seeing a fish , bummer .
We did find a deer antler and two new holes , but no fish . Sunday , my friend managed to catch a 2 lb. male steelhead , I got a bunch of worms stripped off my hook and a cold to make my day. The very first 2 days since September that I have been " SKUNKED " on the Notty .
Tuesday the 13 th. , I went out fishing because the weather was beautiful and almost no wind at all .
First hole no takers , they were there because they were surfacing . Next hole seemed futile as well ... until ... my buddy yelled he had one on .
I caught two immediately after we landed his fish , yes , I have redemption . The water is a beautiful green colour and the clarity is right where it should be .
Now at this very moment " it's raining !!! " , not good rain , bad rain . Let it rain a little please , I really want to fish this weekend .View attachment 8837View attachment 8836View attachment 8835View attachment 8834

So as mentioned in another post I am working in Toronto this week and got nostalgic and decided to fish the Credit while I was here

Day 1 Dec 12 was spent scouting good drifts seeing where the flow was good and catching just that one tiny one I mentioned in my other post.

Day 2 Dec 13 was much better :)

I finally found a pool I liked and started drifting. Not too long into it the float goes down and I set the hook, its small and I see golden flashes, I think to myself brown? Sweet, they have avoided me this fall finally got one.

Nope, its a sucker, I caught another later too, *Flashbacks to spring trout fishing in toronto and catching tons of these buggers ... twitch*

So I continue, hey I caught a fish who knows what I will get.

Float goes down and I set the hook, I feel its a good size and its bulldogging, I see a flash under the surface as it tries to shake the hook and it looks like a good male. I forgot what its like to fight bigger fish in a big river, it was quite exhilarating, especially since I knew it was a good one.

dec 13 steel 1.jpg

The pictures dont do it justice, the colours on it were nice. Thats my size 14 wading shoes and thats a 27-28" male, my best this fall.

Then I get another dec 13 steel 2.jpg

This ones more acrobatic, mmmm chrome.

I also had a third one which after the hookset came to the surface and started headshaking and spit the hook.

Day 3 Dec 14
I wasnt supposed to go fishing, but I picked up a new (to me) pin from CJR the night before.... it was nice to meet you by the way. I decided I would go and play with my new toy.

Got to my pool and watched a guy land a nice buck brown, d'oh I knew I shouldnt have loafed around before heading out.

Today was much tougher, mainly because I had company at the pool and one of them monopolized it.

First fish felt solid, it snapped the leader almost right after the hookset. Which sucks because thats my first break off this fall and it was on a fresh leader to boot.

Second fish I dont even know what happened, it was there then it wasnt.

Third fish I set the hook and it starts rushing straight at me, I cant spin the pin fast enough to pick up the slack and the fish gets off, no idea what it was.

At this point I'm a little dissapointed, frustrated and wet and have someone blocking me off from even floating the part of the pool where all my fish have come from. For no real reason other than frustration I float a rocky part of the pool a few feet from me, one that I've avoided because I'm standing right there and because of hangups. This was the result:

dec 14 steel.jpg

This was my last trip to the credit in 10 years and it could now be years, I sure enjoyed it.

Oh and I found out out a few things:

Certain pins are harder to control in a downpour when fighting a fresh chromer :D

a 12'6 rod feels monstrous on eastern tribs and inadequate on a big river like the credit. I'm sure I would have gone better than 1 for 4 if I was able to get a better hookset on my massive drifts.

Last but not least for those who care, LeBaron sells steehleading stuff significantly cheaper than Gagnon's.
