i was there last thursday...just scoutting out fishing possibilities....at the bridge dividing the three inner ponds from the outer western waters there were dozens of carp visible(walk up to the lookout area) .
from another lookout not as far from the entrance(new bird and wildlife area) there were hundreds of carp visible in the water.
if carp fishing is your passion, your in heaven.
the largest pond ....right off the bridge area is supposed to hold fish like bass....but i have no proof...did see two separate people fishing this pond...too far away to ask if the fish were biting.
not a lot of shade cover for the fisherman so if you give it a try there be prepared for the sun.
may you serve our fish friends a memorable dinner.
 
Great spot for pike but depends on the day. Sunny calm day works best believe it or not. And the islands I find best in over cast go figure.

Gotta be clear water for best conditions I found and also the slightest breeze and it muddies right up.

Spoons and large rapalals work best.

The Conservation guy was saying "ride out in the van" the temp fluctuates so much and so fast in the inner lagoons that it is either hit or miss.

Also the bass move in late aug early sept but fish the bay just out of the lagoons and facing Lake O.

Spent a lot of time learning this place last year. The pike are big and fight like mad and there are tons of Sheep head but I've never hooked into one. They jump all over huge boys.
 
Walking there is a pain in the ass, I advise taking the bird watching shuttle as well.

there are a lot of carps in there. right behind the little bridge.

i went there few weeks after i visited the island and for some odd reasons...

there wasn't any visible weeds

now this is already back few weeks ago but still... it was strange thing to see

water there does very promising but i don't think i want to visit there again

because it is a bloody looooooooooong walk.

maybe bring your bicycle.
 
Weeds are back now I was there Saturday. All around the bridge is weeded as weedy as it gets anyways. But I agree it's not a weedy area in general.

I guess that could have something to do with the dredged silt they dump in there from harbor each year "another tip from the conservation guy in the van"

Mostly that long hair like weed not cabbage weed which I found pike love most!

At the very beginning South side of the lagoon has the most weed a nice 40m swaths of weed.

Note: The Van will drive you out there on weekends at no charge forget walking that far.
 
I always wanted to check out tommy thompson park.. but its only open on the weekends.. never had a chance to go there.

The one weekend i actually decided to go.. i found out it was closed off for a marathon... :(

But i did hear about the carps there.. i wonder if i just threw any bait down where the carp flood gate is... would they bite?.. anyone have any luck recently?
 
like everyone says, the walk is what kills it. it's just too far but as far as fishing goes, it is a great park. it's carp heaven. i've caught pike at cell 3 but small size although I use size 1 spoons. i heard there's catfish there.
 
Some of the embayments are off limits right now due to nesting birds.

There is a shuttle van that will take you to the bridge, but there is still tons of walking to do beyond that. To the right of the drop-off point there is a heavily worn trail that leads to a fishing spot that seems to be used the most because it's convenient. I made the mistake of walking 30 minutes to get to a different "lagoon" as I heard it was a good location for pike early in the season. No such luck, but conditions weren't great. Also, beware of the rocks.
 
Where do you take the shuttle? I heard it was for bird watching or something. Do you think they would mind if I had my fishing equipment on the shuttle?

The shuttle was right at the parking lot. We took our gear with us and they had no problems. I only went the one time and there seemed to be some sort of event happening with the TT Park people so I'm not sure if the shuttle was just a special occasion. The van looked like it was used heavily. The shuttle may very well be for birders but they didn't object to taking anyone who wanted to catch a ride.

i don't think the van is exclusively for birders but what do I really know? Well all I know is that the driver is a pretty cool dude who let's anyone ride as long as there's room. and some birders (with their big cameras) don't seem to think the van is use solely for them.
 
I went to tommy thompson park today thinking there would be the van shuttle bus. The lady at the front gate that works at the hotdog stand told me the shuttle service has been cancelled by the city this year. So no more shuttle.

Went to ashbridges instead. It was crazy round goby galore there. My first time catching them.

Hope you did'nt throw them back. Gobies are invasive and to be destroyed.
 
Unfortunately I did throw them back ... But I tried several locations at ashbridges using worm. Every location had gobys. I'm talking every cast I threw out I pretty much got bites and every fish I caught was a small goby.

The place is infested with them all along the edge

Read the regs you are to dispose if them.
Do not throw them back in alive
 
definitely no shuttle this year.

beware of the fire ants too - have never been anywhere where I have been stung so bad as the spots out on TT.

fire ants and small snakes. me and my 3 year old was walking by one time and he almost grabbed s 2 foot snake screaming "snakey"!, i was sweating bricks when i saw the snake 3 feet away from my kid. lot's of dead ones on the road courtesy of the cyclists. if the van is cancelled...the walk to the fishing spots is definitely going to be a b#tch.
