Trying to assess trout beads as a way of float fishing for brown trout in the Spring.

It appears that single bead is the most common approach. Do they also work in mutiples or clusters?

Assuming that beads are designed to imitate eggs, do they only work during spawning season?

Any basic insights are appreciated.

Trout beads are very good. Every steelhead I caught this fall was on a bead. Even got a bite at the whirlpool. I figure they will work just as well in the spring. I'm a believer :)

Do they need to be orange colored beads? I was not able to find orange color at Michael's craft store. I never tried using beads before. I just got these at Michaels for $2.45 tax inclusive for 50 beads pink and purple after using the 40% coupon available on line.

If it works , It would encourage others from not having to kill every female trout they landed. I normally use artificial lure, but got into Centerpinning lately.

Beads come in a myriad of colours. You can see the colours available at www.troutbeads.com and you are correct when you said that the need for roe will decrease as the use of beads increases.

I love beads ;) I have only ever used singles and the fish love 'em. Typically I use beads in clear water and run a tiny hook, float down, chrome spinnin'!

Those beads have some nice flash in them, I havent used beads but from what I understand variety is the way to go. Get different sizes, colors and finish. Getting some orange beads in a matte finish would be a good addition to your collection. And as Gbay said yarn flies are killer, especially in gin clear conditions.

Float down, centerpin spinnin'! Get down, git down!

I usually knot the bead an inch or two above the hook, and when I say small hook I'm talking size 14, I'm all about stealth approaches. I will be expermenting with setting 'em on hooks, tying up different patterns wth them, multple clusters? Maybe I'm taking it a bit to far but something tells me elastic threading would sway nicely in the current, couple eggs added into the mix... mmmm mmmm goodness.

It works in my favour keeping the hook bare. About 50% of the time I am fishing with plastics, I just leave the bead on there and run my plastics, double trouble.

In terms of color I haven't experimented much, I've seen all sorts of colors at work... baby blue, yellow, red, white ( those white Atlas or Mikes eggs are great straight on the hook ), etc. I use chinnie salmon plastic eggs in orange, don't remember where I got them at. They are translucent. Looks orange to me but I have no clue what the fish sees.

I can see that advantage ninja....more density than yarn or soft plastic...im gonna give them some more time this spring....maybe on hungry hungry dropbacks to get the confidence up....old wise man told me they like the riffles when their on the drop. Ty for the rundown dozer.

Ive caught bows in different area codes......i love changing lyrics to suit my steelhead psychosis lol

I just got in some GLOW BEADS and my new UV LED FLASHLIGHT! (NIGHT FISHING)

EBAY: $5 (beads) and the Flashlight was $15 with shipping

Boy does the UV LIGHT really charge the GLOW SPOONS as well. (Best I have ever seen)

As for the "Normal beads"....
This fall I picked up (2) NECKLACES at the DOLLAR STORE. ($1 each)

They have about 100 glass beads on them. Not sure of the extact sizes (Guessing 6mm for one 8mm for the other)

Colours are: Light Pink Salmon and "orange/pink.

Only used them a couple times (Both successfully).

Because they are GLASS (not plasitc) .. they have more weight. Just tied directly to line (No leader) with the hook about 1'1/2 down from bead.

Not an "expert" on beads (Yet) but found them to work very well.

$2 at the DOLLAR STORE and I have a LIFE SUPPLY!

Dollar store is great place.......got my best producing yarn from there as well as some pink nylon layout line that makes excellent backing. Both items 1.50
