Tying roe bags

interesting concept. Im sure people have tried it. But personally I like to keep mine as natural as possible. white roe bag, natural roe and clear thread. However my hook is red color, just to add that "blood" aspect.

In addition, Id use a blood dot bead on top.

You can get coloured thread similar to spider thread. I used to use it when I'm tying chartreuse and pink bags. Doesn't hold up as well, you kinda gotta tie a knot at the end.

Ive always used spider thread since I came across it. Don't miss the "good ole days" of the tying machine and sewing thread!

Spider thread works well no matter what color bags I tie...and the fish don't seem to mind the difference in color... ;)

Take your spider thread out of the casing and hit it up with some gree / pink/ red / orange food coloring. I bet that would work. Your hands will color up as well though I would imagine

yeah i use that somtimes, red thread on a white sack. i change it up somtimes or just go with spider. no harm in trying

We used red thread before spider thread came out, but spider thread is much faster and therefore that is all I use now.

the eggs are real so they have their own blood dot. BTW I am sick and tired of tying roe bags, ive been fishing way too much! Anyone want to throw out a price to tie 200 roe bags for me? lol

Next time you order Chinese takeout, dip your spider thread in the Red sauce that comes with the Chicken balls...that red s#%t will stain anything!!!

I used to use colored thread before I got spider thread... overall they worked well and had no difference in presentation, I prefer spider thread now personally

I try to never op an egg, looks ugly and makes the bag smaller. However, it does add extra scent. If fishing for salmon, I couldnt care less since they are not feeding anyways. If its trout, then every bit of scent matters

When hooking a roe bag, do you hook the mesh or do you pop one of the eggs?

Also, when no fish are hitting your eggs. When do you know its time to throw away your roe bag and put in a new sack?

Usually hook the bag. Try not to pop the eggs if no fishing is hitting it pop one egg throw it back in and see what happens. I throw em away when the bag looks like its loose not tight around the eggs.

I use skein scrape that is always full of juicy milky goodness and I'm always catching fish even in crappy conditions and no one is getting any thing !!! So if I were fishing Loose roe in tight bags I would pop one or two and a cluster of eggs wouldn't be in a uniform ball naturally any ways !! Most people have a bit of OCD and want to fish with a firm tight perfect size roe bag and it means more to them then the fish !! Just an observation over the years of fishing with people
