ugly stik musky rod?

Ontario Fishing Forums

Help Support Ontario Fishing Forums:

Hey, I'm a big fan of ugly stik, i have the salmon/steelhead rod, and had 2 spinning rods (1 got taken by the ministry).

Its just I havent been able to find one with the right lure weight (1-6 ounces) and length.. 7'6, all the 7 and a half footers seem to be for lighter lures

there's an 8 foot tiger rated for 1-4 ounce lures, that might be alright.. seems like a saltwater rod though

I looked under big water http://www.shakespea...x_uglystik.html and they seems to have the specification you wanted.7 foot H action 1-6oz. there is few of them.

The Tiger you mentioned is on the Le Barons Page in My Post Above. They call it a "Bigwater Rod" same term as the Pic beside it in my Post. I don't think it's meant for saltwater use.

I mentioned above that I had the Specs for all the "Bigwater Rods" if Interested. They are as below, 2 Pages. They came from Berkleys WWW Site as did the above Pics.

Page One: They have for using with 1-6 Ounces,.... 2-7' Rods One Piece,... 1-8' 2 Pce, ....1-10' 2Pce.
Page Two: After "#10 Fly Line" there are 9 RODS, 6'-6" To 8', All One Piece.

ALSO: BP has a "Muskie Trigger Rod". Three of them would seem to be what you are looking for. A 7'-6" 2-10 Ounces, ...An 8' 2-8 Ounces, ....An 8'-6" 4-10 Ounces. Pic Below.

ALSO: BP carries a "Browning Medallion GT Muskie Rod" 7'-6", 1 Piece, For 2-10 Ounces. Pic Below.

Man! If I was you, I wouldn't be having a Hard Time "Finding One", I'd be having a Hard Time "Choosing Which One"

But I already have 2 Muskie Rods and I just Tore Down and Cleaned up the 20 Year Old "Combo" below that's coming out of "Retirement". A Penn Peer 209M on a Major Glass Rod thats landed its fair share of BIG Lakers.

Muskies? NO SWEAT!!!

Yeah I see an 8', 2 piece Bigwater rod that's rated for 12-30 lb line and 1-6 ounce lures as klik pointed out..

this would be ideal.. this chart you posted is from lebarons also right? If so I think I'm leaning towards this one right now (because I'm cheap, I know ugly stiks are good, and i'll save at least 30 dollars.)

so right now I just have to decide how much I wanna spend,

either around 60$ for the Ugly Stik Bigwater (le barons)
90$ for the Browning medallion GT (bass pro)
or around 120$ for the shimano compre (bass pro)

They all seem to do the job, as for BP's muskie rod's, Nickevans warned me against them so theyre off my list.

Wrong. My statement regarding the charts you mention was ...."I mentioned above that I had the Specs for all the "Bigwater Rods" if Interested. They are as below, 2 Pages. They came from Berkleys WWW Site as did the above Pics."

Unless you've actually seen the Rod at Wal Mart and not their Online Catalogue there's very little chance they will have it. Only a few of their stores carry a reasonable quantity of Fishing Gear. I've been through that with them twice now

Sportsmans Show? Yep! $15.00 to get in and about the same for Parking if you drive. I stopped going there Many Years ago. Everything seemed to be Full Retail & No Deals.

saw the rod online, i have to agree with you. yeah their sales is on the crap they could not sell in the stores themselves. only sales or bargins are saturday and sunday. by that time, they have sold most of their good stuff anyways. only thing the show is good for is, all the stores are in the same spot and you dont need to go around gta.

ah, thanks for clearing that up.

If i can find a Tiger or Bigwater to the specs I mentioned and 2 piece I'll get it, and save myself some cash.

might be hard though, I like the browning medallion GT too and I already know where to find it, anyway.. I'll let you know guys know what I get, thanks for adding a few more options to my list

You've already mentioned as per the Charts I've Posted Above that there are 2 "Bigwater Rods" that meet your specs. BP Has them. I just checked.

As Above: "Page One: They have for using with 1-6 Ounces,.... 2-7' Rods One Piece,... 2-8' ,2 Pce,(12 to 30Lb Test and 3/4 to 6 Ounce Lures) ....1-10' 2Pce

You also want a 2 Piece Rod. The "Browning Medallion GT" Series are ALL One Piece.

Good Luck on Your Eventual Purchase!!

thanks again, I'm still trying to decide between 1 or 2 piece, but so far im leaning towards 2 for practicality, and thanks for checking BP for me, that 8'0 one you mentioned is the exact one I was looking for!

I guess BP doesn't list all their rods online

I'm pretty sure these are saltwater rods though, I wonder how the action compares to muskie rods

there's a good chance i'll buy it, because I like ugly stik and I don't like spending too much on fishing gear

edit: just noticed the BWS 1100 80 is a spinning handle, I was looking for bait caster, i might be stuck with 1 piece

how about this? http://www.tackledirect.com/shakespeare-bwc-2201-2-270-ugly-stik-tiger-rod-casting.html, only down side is little lighter in half an hounce and medium action, but two piece, 8' 10-50lb and bait casting.

hey, that one would be good too, just seems these ugly stiks are tricky to find in these sizes
