Can you guys give me tips on how to control a steelhead so it does take me down river.

I lost this guy because I had no control and a knot was left in the middle of my leader.

There's not a hole lot you can do when you get fresh Crome !! Try to hold it back and risk breaking it off or chase it down .... Just relax and take your time if you try to rush it you will loose them

I actually went 0-10 before landing this steelhead. I hooked up another right after but my line snapped at a knot in the middle of my leader. The more I fight them, the more confident I get to landing one.
every single one is annoying and hard to land regardless, unless you want to drag every single fight, both it is dangerous to the fish in colder temperatures and you won't be too popular if you are fishing with many others around you. that is why steelheading is such prestige type of fishing for the advanced.
on friday i had a fish swim away from me in a burst about 5 meters, so i let the spool run, within half a second it was back toward me 7 meters. so i had to pull the line back in lol. i love steelheading.

Steelhead put up some great fights imo. They don't just pull hard; their movements are fast, frantic and will sometimes even jump straight out of the water. I never get tired of steelhead.

i said landing them is annoying. fighting them is the most awesome experience while fishing :) exhilarating is the best word that you can describe steelhead fights.

there is no such thing as controlling steelhead lol, you just hope you pull hard and pray the hook does not pop lol or you can run after him faster. :)

I caught my second steelhead today on a fresh roe bag that I prepared last night.
I went 1-7 and I almost lost this one due to my poor landing skills. I had branches over my head that tangled with my rod and line.

this isnt really controlling steelhead and believe me im not a pro but to stop a fish from going downstream, you try to turn it so to speak, you do this by turning your rod upstream and when you do this the fish turns around and faces upstream and stops running downstream, i did this while my first steel was taking off downstream and it worked like a charm

i enjoyed the video, was like my salmon video i sent you. lol you fought it well. they are strong this year.

Nice! Seems like neon/green is the colour to go with the past couple weeks. Especially up north. People have been slammin' the 'bows
