Hi i was wondering does any one have any luck using shrimp as bait? for salmon, bass etc, got mixed reviews,

I Have briefly tried using uncooked shrimp ( grocerystore, frozzen with shell still on) for fishing in the Holland R.
I did not get much action- judt some mudcats if I recall. I didnt try anything fancy- just hung it on a jug head. I dont think the shrimp heads were on, so using a full "head On" shrimp and presenting it more naturally would propobly be the way to go for Bass.

I also used shrimp for shore casting in the Gulf of Mexico near Ft. Myers Florida. Much better results naturally.

The closest looking bait swiming in my area is crayfish. Maybe I wil give it a more dedicated try next summer.

Maybe it's the freshwater vs.saltwater thing? But I've used peeled (deshelled) crawfish to tip my jigs with good success-so I can't believe shrimp can be all that different. However I've noticed that bait shape does make a significant difference: a longer shape with fluttery tail(like a minnow or worm) will get strikes easier then a blob or irregular shaped piece. 8)
