Water Safety on Rice Lake

The waves there can get pretty nasty if you're in open water. Definitely scary in a canoe. Thanks for posting.

The northwest tip of Rice Lake (right at Bewdley) can get pretty nasty as well. Loads of logs, rocks, and shoals. Looks like a bass paradise and it is, but there are plenty of other spots around the west part of Rice if you are unfamiliar with the area.

Also the inlet of Cow Island gets really shallow at times. I would recommend not going there unless you have a canoe or small craft.

Thanks Fishergirl.

Uhhhh yeah. Not gonna say I have hit those rocks before. THOUGHT I was clear when I wasn't. It is dangerous people, be careful.

Those tracks down the middle can be a little tricky if you've never fished the lake before.. With that being said the smallies love the tracks if you can get close enough.

Rice lake is one of my personal favourites to fish. It can get real nasty in a hurry if you don't have the right equipment/gear. I was out there one blue sky day fishing the Indian river. Seen the clouds coming over head so decide to call it a day by the time I hit the main lake it took me almost an hour to get back to bewdley launch. On a good day it's about a 15min run in my boat.. Be safe on rice! All lakes for that matter.. Drive to the conditions

Thanks for sharing. I know every rock in Rice Lake fishing it for many years and very thorough I may add. Luckily for new electronics and the advancement in mapping, some of us are lucky to be able to navigate that place even at night. Rice Lake can be deadly even in 15 k/m winds believe it or not. I preach saftey all the time, especially as someone who speaks to other youth anglers about how important it is to be fully aware on and off the water. Again, great share and thanks for that!

It was a good read. I've been fishing Rice only for a couple years and I rent from a spot near Keene, my buddy wants to try fishing the tracks and or the Otonabee. Ive been too scared to try navigating it. Still am, but good read. Glad I read it.
