I heard that the salmon run is cancelled this year. Oh well, there's always next year …
darn. and here i was polishing my surf casting rod and greasing the reel with a sick grin on my face

seems like krocodile spoons have been looking delicious lately. not a salmon though. got a nice pike and a nice brown. never too early when fishing Lake O side on a cool breeze.

Are you sure you got that price right? Krocs are pricey spoons, certainly not something you get for 25 cents (even at Sail)...
i think he means there are 4 sizes and each are 1.99

Thanks!

Sail Vaughn has 15% off until the 20th, does 15% off still apply to sale items?
I got some from the Etobicoke store yesterday. The 15% doesn't apply to sale items, but the Krocodiles didn't have sale stickers, so they were 15% off. Couldn't find any of the bigger sizes though, the ones I got were 3/8 oz. Check out the stickied post about pier fishing for noobs, it has everything you need to know. You'll want spoons that are at least 1/2 oz, with 3/4 oz being better.

Id be down to join some one out east (as the run starts there) at dusk chucking spoons and J-13s.

I never got a chance to do it last year but have the whole set up ready to go. Waiting until august to hit the tribs!

i usually hit piers all trough august as it can be amazing like easy 6-8 fish per hour plus in open water its the freight train vs your drag but then as they come in i start to do like 50/50 in september then all october I'm in the tribs i need hit the whirlpool for salmon this year, its been a while

Any truth to the rumor that there are salmon already in the very eastern trib?
maybe 1 or 2 in the cooler tribs but trust me I'm looking and have yet to find anything

This summer has been much cooler than normal, I think water temps are more favorable this year for an "earlier" entry.

However, with the little amount of rainfall this year, Im not sure water levels are high enough just yet for mass migration. Plus, its still about a month early anyways :p

Im hoping to get my first brown this season

I have seen salmon or brown trout cruising by this early about 20 - 30 feet from shore. easy to spot them when you're standong on a 15feet cliff...casting a line, not so much i'm still enjoying the bass and this summer seems to be too short. i will start my salmon hunt mid august. but just letting you guys know. salmon are consistently stacking with this cool weather.

Use nightcrawlers in the stream, especially where fast rapids meet pools, even small pools as long as there's an undercut bank!

Evening can be deadly for browns. Mid November, you'll catch as many browns as steelhead, even during the day. After a big rain when the water is stained, is the best time.
