Hey guy just found a weird roe cure it seemed really odd at first but it works who would have thought
It's a packet of koolaid borax and salt dissolved in wanted
(Koolaid is added for colour and sugar)

im not into curing my own roe as i refuse to kill a rainbow solely for its eggs. however a friend of mine cures his with salt and river water. they milk fast and break easy but in low clear water you can't beat them. for store bought roe centre pin angling has good roe, fish heads not quite as good but not bad

know a guy at work who swears on red coolaid and brown sugar mixed in with his cure...
never tried it myself but hes got some nice pics to prove it!

probably some merit there

sorry for the doublepost but i found the opposite to be true. fishheads was a lot better then centre pin for me personally.. ah well maybe it was just that batch or something. but they do have all the cool colors if thats your thing..

Depending on when, how much, and how you add salt to your roe, and what you do to it afterwards, you will end up with very different results.

If you're going to salt your roe, put on your lab coat, you're in for some experimenting.

thats a beast right there mike .jeez.

"dat roe" ;)

dont mean to de-rail the topic but jeez. need to hook into one o those

mike/fisheads: i should've elaborated, i found CPA's roe to milk more/quikcer than the fish heads, but the fish heads held there colour longer which was nice.(so it is a matter of preference more than quality ) I assume that the roe you get are from farmed trout, are you familiar with there curing process they do?

read my last post there it was more of a preference thing. i have yet to try those crazy colour roe bags. i have a feeling they'd be one of those things where you fish beside some one all day they catch fish after fish, Then at the end of the day your like "man what the hell were you using " raspberry blue eggs.

I took no offence Steelhead101 trust me. as I said to each their own. As for curing, I know exactly what is used because they do it to my specifications. I have found what I like to call the best suppliers in Ontario. They treat me well and I do the same for them
