Berg, i will be honest with you. If all you want is to fish for steel. Then opener is fun, because sections of river where there's abundance of trout will be open. Lot's of water to cover. If you do recons 2-3 days before opener, you will end up salivating and would be excited for the opener. There are a few people who do this, you will see them in the river already, scouting potential spots. There are tribs that will be full of people who just knows it's trout opener and don't really target trout whole year round. but they know it's trout opener and will show up only on openers. In fact i have met a lot of people on the rivers who just got their license, the day before opener and trust me, by May, you won't see them. A lot of people interpret this different ways. I know some think they are nuisance and just here for the harvest. But if you think about it, these people pay for license and fish 2 - 3 times for steelhead and will be back next year on opener. Just keep an eye out for those who get over the limit or doing illegal stuff and the rivers will prosper. I usually head out on tribs late afternoon to do my share of fishing...good time to practice the pin and centerpin control. and muscle excercise. tight lines.
