Hi all,
Was at Petro Canada yesterday, walked all the way past the QEW and back but only seen maybe 5 salmon, then today even less, seen 2, 1 tried killing itself i think from loneliness lol and none at erindale park. Seriously though is the salmon season over already? Or has the cold snap just shied them away?

Probably it has been spawning.

Seriously though is the salmon season over already? Or has the cold snap just shied them away?

Yes, almost over, they have been running for about 6 weeks now and its time to see the end tail of it. Those fish that have moved it, are either decomposing in the bushed (gutted) or died natural, some have also made it to the closed sectionss of the river if they have been lucky to make it through the slaughter gates

getin is right salmon season is coming to an end. but rainbow season is picking up hard and fast.

Some rivers start later and still have semi-decent runs. But I think it's still pretty much rapped up. You'll get the odd stragler, I got a chinny in mid november last year out of a gb trib that still looked relitively fresh. Stranger things have happened. Has anyone seen any big lake browns moving in yet??

awesome, are the rainbows at petro or else where? Also I fairly new at this and I have a set up right now for salmon, that is 20lb braid, 15lb fluoro leader, what should i spool up on my second spool for trout? ie 6lb,8lb braid, 6lb, 4lb fluoro leader? also same size hooks? 1/2?

I could PM you a spot that's good for casting for Lake Ontario Chinooks if you want. The one I'm thinking of is good till early November.

You can still catch them in rivers too, but you gotta go much higher than Petro Canada. I think you can still find lots.

PS There are lots of trout at that park right now, but they obviously don't show themselves like salmon leaving you thinking the river is empty when it really isn't

I have the day off tomorrow. I was planning to out to petro or erindale. Any tips for fishing steelies in the rain, or should i just stay home?

stay home what, if i had a day off i woud not even think i woud just go lol. Some of my best days have been in rain.

went out at 5 am this morning did pretty good 3 steelhead and lost 2. all cot on peach bag with 3 eggs

I was out yesterday and went 7-8, with the 1 missed being at least 10lbs.. 1 jump and 3 shakes was all it took to spit my hook (I didn't set my hook in properly

All of them smashed my fresh chinny bags, with at least 6-8 eggs in each.. They were between Nickle and Quarter size. :smile:

sweet ! i was using coho eggs. was only out for a hr Orr so but was nice to hit sum steelies still trying to get my first double digit brown try again tomorrow weather permitting
