I have never been ice fishing before so I was wondering where is a good place to go? ( keep in mind that I live in London and I dont want to drive very far 2-4 hours max.) And if I go ice fishing what should I use and what would I catch?

I don't know much about ice fishing, but I know you can catch: perch, walleye, pike, trout and whitefish. I'd bet your tackle shop would have an idea if they sold ice fishing supplies...

Lake simcoe is a good place to start. Tm hales fish huts will give you everything you need. Heated huts, live minnow, tip up rods and hooks. They take you out and bring you back in by bombardier. You can fish for perch and whitefish mostly. It's a great time, as long as your baits down you hooking up

I’d stick with Cooks Bay as it’s the first to ice over . Go with icecabins.com for the best time , catch the biggest jumbos in the bay .good luck

If you plan on going by yourself just remember there are a few things to bring. An Ice Auger is pretty key, an Ice Scoop to clean the hole. Ice rods are pretty important aswell. And depending on the lake, you might want to bring a sled to pull your gear but some lakes you can drive on. Make sure you have good boots aswell. Nothing can ruin a day out in the Ice more then cold feet or wet feet at that. Especially when its been warm and there is 6 inchs of slush and water ontop of the ice. Oh I guess I should tell you where: Simcoe (If you like crowds),Lake Erie, Georgian Bay(can be dangerous),Conestoga Lake,Belwood Lake..lots more do some research. But those lakes all fall withing your 2-4 hour drive margin.

I do not liev down Near London so I would have to say Ask at the Local Fishing supply store, but afew People are saying Lake Erie and I woudl have to agree, I have hear about the Perch fishing there. But also do not over look inland lakes, if they are safe of course. if you are just fishing for fun Bass do bite in the winter, and Perch and Sunfish are in almost ever lake.

I always catch beauty pike ice fishing on Lake Couchiching.
its not as good as it used to be but yes there are some giants left i know ppl that have killed the big ones just to show their buddies and the pols wiped out the spring run for a couple years. i would say start be targetting panfish look for smaller waters that freeze up first small jigs and waxies work well and perch, crappie, bluegill fight good on 2-4 lb ice gear.

For your first trip out and to see what its all about you can always try smaller ponds too. Shades Mills, Pinehurst lake to name a few. Levey Lake has some nice pike in it. If you want big water id agree with Cooks Bay lake Simcoe but its quite the drive from london. If you wanna take a trip up this winter I do alot of my Ice Fishing there and have a 4 man hut, gas auger and all the rods and tackle. Can make arrangements to go for a day if you would like. Can also do Lake Erie at St Williams. I only go for panfish mainly perch. If its later in the year I drive my truck right out on the ice as long as its thick enough. Saves the walk out

Lake Erie?
Last year safe ice was almost not to be found. This year so far it is not looking much better. long Point Bay is generally your best option on Erie.
Are you looking to use an operator or go out on your own?
Mitchells Bay on Lake St. Clair could also be an option for you.

Good Luck: Rick

The best place to start and without any effort at all is the local supermarkets for lakers....hahahaha!! just kidding

Quinte is famous for walleyes. BBP for lakers and whities. Scugog for sweet, succulent crappies. Cooks for jumbo perch.
