Well I was supposed to be fishing at rice lake this week but my partner bailed. So I went to cottage on Trent river. The white buckets were out in for force. So I decided to walk along and check out how it was going. Unfortunately there was a language barrier out this day. No speaks any English. Oh ok. So u can read English if u drive gear but ok. So I look into a couple of buckets. There was baby pickerel 6 to 8 inches long in some of there Pails. Tried to explain slot size and restrictions. We're in zone 17 only allowed to keep one pickerel with conservation licence. On e again meet with no speaka any English. Um ok. Do u understand this and proceeded to dump 4 white buckets with fish back into water. There ya go. Get it now. Needless to say they werent to happy. Ya know I don't care who u r or where your from but please know the rules and regs before you start fishing. If I had been ministry they would have been toast. PS. Not the first white buckets I've dumped.

Sounds like you need to learn the rules we all live by. If they are breaking the law call the MNR,you do not have the right to intervene.

Yah, you should call the MNR and let them take a ticket, they might not eve. Have licneces sometimes like the people in scugog on the causeway.

But your my hero for doing that :D

anyone keeping 6" picks deserves to have their bucket poured out. Maybe they will look into why their bucket was poured out and learn a lesson. We can only hope.

Yes I probably n should have called the MNR but it was late in the day and figured they would be long gone by the time they would have showed up.

oh buddy, be careful, eh, people get stabbed, beaten up for actions like that. I know you mean well but you are taking your life into your hands there. Are the regs not printed in several languages. Maybe a hand-out of regs in that situation and a call to the MNR would be a safer bet.

I understand why you did it, I absolutely hate it when people keep illegal fish! I'd like the ministry to "deputize" some anglers to act on there behalf as well as be the eye's and ear's of the fishing community, cause lets be realistic, the ministry is way tooo under staffed to be effective at all. Especially in Toronto, I called once and was told the fastest an officer could arrive was the next day! That turtle probably turned into soup.... :(

Ya the odds of the MNR getting there anytime that day wasn't likely. I have called the MNR in past for this same reason at same location. Never seen anyone show up. Or ever seen an MNR in that area Your right defiantly need to be careful. Just tired of seeing this. Plus I get pissed off seeing them there only because of the garbage left all over constantly. I know how hard those lock workers work to keep it beautiful there and to see the complete disrespect in every sense gets my blood boiling knowing there isn't much I can do

hmmmm it can be very very very frustrating and to top it off the garbage some anglers leave behind!!!!!!!!

.... don't get me started, I was having a good Friday :-|

Your right Dugger they r in different languages Good idea I'm printing some off now to carry with me

good man, there is a way of educating people without getting stabbed lol

but seriously, friend, be careful and be diplomatic as I know you will be, we don't wanna lose your great input here

:)

Staffman and Dugger are sharing words to live by brother...sage advice IMO

On another related matter Rust my man...I would suggest you might want to be careful with your choice of terminology...unfortunately "white bucket brigade" is more often than not a neologism describing that group often the subject of "nipper tipping..."

Call the MNR bro...

My apologies about the terminology had no idea of the reference. And next time I will absolutely call the MNR

I have seen similar things on Trent, they seem to like that river. I have tried to communicate with these people but nothing works better than MNR fines. To so many I have come across, only those who have heard of an MNR and a "fine' and tackle being seized follow the rules a bit.

On a related note, those coming from outside Canada are in general less aggressive and keep quiet when you remind them of the regs (I think poor English lowers the confidence). Of many times I have spoken (nicely) to people about their wrongdoings, I only have gotten threatened by those whom I call SELF ACCLAIMED RIVER OWNERS: arrogant, rude and foul-mouthed fellow citizens. Because they are born here and have fished there as a kid, they really believe they own the river. On the other hand, most people have been nice and helpful, regardless of where I thought I'd bring this up so nobody gets presumptuous when he sees a foreign face

A real easy way of getting ones attention is to simply pull out your cell phone, dial the MNR tips line, then ask the people breaking the laws what the number is for the MNR tips line.

Also, if anyone threatens you while on your phone, call 911 immediately to try to avoid a bad situation. Remember, police are also trained to enforce fish and game laws as well. And if your being threatened or feel it could turn into a bad situation, well it's always preferred to have police respond instead of a drastically undermanned MNR. Plus theyll arrive much faster.

Don't jeopardize you and your family's safety/well being over fish. As much as it frustrates us all (anglers), its much better you return to your friends and family alive and intact.

Just because you are civil, doesn't mean everyone is. Think things over before your react, and take the most appropriate action available at the time.

Be safe and tight lines!

My father was born in South Africa but is of Indian dissent and my mom is from Slovenia, however I'm born here. So needless to say I look kinda foreign, I've gotten yelled at by a middle age man telling me that I single handily, am killing all the fish, while fishing in Toronto and I practice catch and release 99% of the time! I've also had a group of 18-22 year old's threaten to call the police on me because I'm getting in there business when I'm trying to tell them rather politely the bass fishing starts on the forth Saturday in June when it was April and that it is not a good idea to release the fish in a different spot that it came from! People are idiots from all races and ages. O.K rant done. :)

I also have to agree with getin I find that people that understand very little English are more receptive compared to people the speak English but are breaking the rules. I have a copy of the regs and use the calender app on my phone to help them understand when they can fish for bass or other species legally.

It's best not to pre judge any certain race or ethnicity. For example the scugog causeway is a popular place amongst the Asian community who love fishing as much as us all. Yes.. Sometimes you see the white buckets with small baby fishes. But there are also a large majority that are simply sport Fishing but get the negative connotation attached to being simply the same race.

I find there is kind of a grudge in certain areas that are overfished by immigrants. I've been honked at and garbage thrown at me. Many of he Asian decent anglers that can't speak English do tend to keep to themselves.

Yes it pisses me off that these people are illegally keeping he fish and thus creating the term "white bucket brigade". it even makes me mad that they are keeping everything. But if hey are breaking the law. Let the officials deal with it.

The worse thing about this is that they are giving all non English speaking anglers a bad name. And suddenly if you are Asian or brown let's say. Some people will start to assume your part of the "brigade".

Very well put Nato. Stereotyping is common to all people of all races. The question is who is going to be the better person and not do it and make the effort to know a person before judging them? We are all guilty of some kind of ignorance and we are also responsible for our own ignorance. One can continue to live in ignorance or they can open their eyes.

A buddy of mine is a talented auto mechanic from Afghanistan, yeah where the BS war is. When he came here in 97 his problem was with people who couldn't understand him, but he could fix cars faster and better then the other mechanics at the dealership. The others hated him for being better and not knowing how to speak English. My buddy always tells me English is just a language and not a measure of a person's intelligence. Just look at most newspaper articles or even websites, how many spelling and grammatical errors do you see? Judgement can flow both ways.

I wasnt intentionally stereotyping as I wasn't aware of the stereotype I just thought it was in regards to anyone with white buckets. And I was generally interested in how threre day was going. I used to fish there all the time . But next time I have learned just to call MNR

Couldn't agree more about English is just a language and not a measure of a person's intelligence. There is a lady I know who know works at a school cafeteria who has a degree in nuclear physics and bio-medical engineering, however she got these degrees in the Ukraine and when she immigrated to Canada, no one would respect those degrees and the fact that she spoke little English did not help! So she got a job at my school working in the cafeteria and has a family and now cannot afford to go back to school as her 3 kids are all going to university. But, I got to say she is the nicest lady I know (exceptions are my mom, grandma and 90 year old neighbor).

I also think that Rusty knows now that he should call the MNR and let them deal with this. As well as that he is sincerely sorry for any offense he might have caused any one.
