BTW, I would not pay that kind of money for a reel intended to be fished in freshwater. You don't need such an overbuilt reel for freshwater fish...unless you are talking about big Amazon catfish, Wel catfish, Taimen, big sturgeon...etc...but a lot of those targets you won't use a 2500-3000 size Stella for those application either. Those reels just don't have capacity for the fish listed anyways. So what I'm trying to say is that such a small and overbuilt Stella is just a money grab for rich and stupid folks who think they need such bling and buy into the hype.
But if you are intending to really hammer the REAL big game with a spinning reel, then you do need a Stella or a Saltiga or similarly built reel. Those fish are not going to kid around at all and there is a lot of pressure placed on the gear, the handle, the rotor, the shaft and the body...and of course the drag. I had a 15lb Common Dolphinfish (aka mahimahi or dorado) smoked the drag of a Penn Jigmaster (entry level conventional reel). It's just a 15lb Common Dolphinfish...not even considered big or worthy of mentioning by any means. (I'm sure a Stella FE 3000 could land that fish without issues though...but you can do the same with a Sphero 4000 or a Saragossa 4000 as well...much, much cheaper!). But even big 60lb mahimahi are not in the same league as 100lb Yellowfin or Bluefin Tuna...nor is 100lb Wahoo or Yellowtail Kingfish or Giant Trevally.
Plus, if you already put so much money into chasing one of these giants, you don't want to lose your shot at the fish because of poor gear. What's another $1300 for a reel when you already spent $10,000 to fly and stay at your fishing destination? You may only have that one shot in your life...and you want to make sure that the gear you are holding is the best option to help you land that fish.
