I know it's early.
But after watching some of the spring steel opener vids on this site.
It becomes so obvious how weak these fish are after their journey.
I don't have the filming equipment required.
But would love to see vids comparing the brute power of these fall fish in comparison.
Shows what these fair weather fisherman are missing.
Give it a go Pump. Lol

The ones I caught later in the spring season actually fought hard.

I thought I was hooking into fresh run chromers but I found out later they were just fully recovered steelhead.

Completely different to the ones I caught on opener.

No no
I'm not slighting the fish You caught.
Well maybe a little. Lol
Mine were just as lazy on opener.
Stayed down and just bull dogged.
I'm saying you do a good job on your vids .And would enjoy to see a fall chrome filmed by ya.
Please

PUMP your videos are an inspiration bud. Great quality and experiences

Tossing, would love to see yours too. I also lack the equipment to make some vids, but man do I see some funny shit on the water sometimes. Mostly non-fishing related. Most recent funny story I have is some young, good-lookin ladies drunkenly decided to go for a skinny dip (not fully) off the pier I fish. That was interesting on a fishless night

Post spawn steeles act different from post spawn Salmon....steeles are more aggressive and hungry. found that out the hardway. I was swinging buggers and too so much line out and burned my finger with fly line as the steel took it all the way to backing.

I dont have enough experiance between fall and spring steel.. Which are more aggressive..
To me it seems the fall they come in just to fill their fat bellies....

@ Dill
No comparison to a steel that has just spent the last six months in the lake and hitting the rivers in November.
Pure strength and power.

Hey you know that I am here too right? What about my videos. lol

I have no recording equipment but I found any fresh in creek fish fought way harder. Fish in October where amazing fighters, jumping, skipping, all over the place, had one jump up onto opposite bank, flop back in then jump onto my side of creek all in seconds. Some of the fish in February fought just the same but yes I found spawned out drop backs just bulldogged and not as acrobatic.

Ha ha.
Yeah they're totally erratic Big.
Good test of your hand tied flies coming.
Couple might get shredded.

There is no doubt in my mind that fall fish are spunkier. They aren't always as big as winter/spring fish, but are absoiutely chrome and fresh as can be.

I've noticed that late in the season in the cold weather they loose some of their fighting abilities.

For GTA area, true power is catching a fresh steelhead from the Niagara River in early December when the water is cold, the fish in prime condition and has width, length, depth and current to put up stink. Small creek fish has little room to run - fun, but not the same.

Ha ha. Obviously talking Jan and Feb when ice cold and lethargic.
Definately, I don't find November fish lethargic at all, even in December the water temps aren't normally cold enough to really make them lazy. Jan and Feb are more like the lazy months.

all depends on how cold the water gets. remember a couple years ago, water was near freezing in november
