Hi guys,

I just had a few questions about zone 17. I was wondering if anyone could point me towards what it is legal and was is not legal for the salmon season in this zone. This includes what methods to catch the salmon by (rod, net, etc), and what bait is allowed.

Thank you very much.

Zone 17 it depends on the river.

There are many extended season exemptions. Take a look at the regulations. The majority are closed north of Hwy 2. Some the CN tracks. It depends.

Snagging isn't allowed and you can't just use a net.

Off the top of my head I dont believe that tehre is a limitation of the type of bait to use.

People will often use spoons, rapalas, beads, flies, roe

no netting, no snagging, no illegal methods, its outlined in the regulations, what constitutes legal angling methods.

Zone 17 starting sept 30 at midnight closed for salmon and trout north of highway 2 until midnight dec 31.
from Jan1 to 4th saturday in april closed north of the cnr right of way.

Hey,

Can you show your source for those things? I can't find it stated anywhere in the regulations,

Thanks. :)

Page 7 and 8. You really need to read all of it to know what is legal and illegal.

Thank you very much for the reply MuskieBait, I must have skimmed past that because I didn't know what a dip net implied or the definition for it rather.

Is there anything pertaining to the bait itself, I've heard different things such as only spoon, only a single hook or even bait.

There is no regs in regard to bait that I'm aware of. Most on here use floats with roe or skein, flies, beads. Some through spoons and body baits all depends on what the fish want.

There are mentions which bait fish you can use but i wouldn't recommend that for salmon or trout.

prime example of why there needs to be a course or test prior to getting a fishing tag. i won't call it a license because licenses require testing

You simply cannot skip something because you dont understand it. That wont fly with a conservation officer as an excuse. Dont know what a dipnet is? There is a glossary of terms found within the regulations, also asking us here to help and google. Read the entire booklet, there are a lot of rules to follow.

I appreciate the obvious statement. You wouldn't be typing those characters if it wasn't for me going out of my way and asking questions pertaining to handling fish in a legal and ethical way. Anyways, thank you to those who didn't give me snobby answers.

it is YOUR responsibility to READ the rules, not ours to explain them all out to you. the books are free, its online, everything is crystal clear, cut and dry, everything is defined, take an hour or so and actually read it.

Just trying to help you, read the entire bloody thing, trust me. The boundaries and crap can get a little confusing.

No intention in yanking your chain but if you know your way around the internet to actually find OFF, it would be easy for you to type in, "legal way to fish", and when you involve a question if it's legal to "net a fish" i'm not even sure if serious....wouldn't there be more people using nets if that's the case?
