Hardest part will be trying to find a pool to be able to get a good cast in... with all the float fisherman around you may have a hard time.  Spinners and spoons def. have their days, shouldn't have a problem hooking into one, or ten :)  No one owns the river and there isn't any "right" way of fishing a pool, bottom bouncing, lure casting floating or fly its all fair game but not everyone shares the same view.  Casting kwikfish through a pool once I was told " Thanks for scaring all the fish..."   I guess fish bite when they're scared.

saw a guy hook a nice sized one on a kwikfish, that's what gave me the idea

I don't plan on casting it into pools with a bunch of guys drifting.. but if I get there earlier and get a nice pool to myself. then i'll try it out for sure..

i have a brand new spinning rod to try out.

Unless you have a crystal float tied to a short leader with a dime-sized presentation, you are not going to win favour with the river-gangs.  Sounds like you are using proper discretion so you will be fine.  Fish with confidence and nobody will hassle you.
