after reading about another member using his dogs fur to tie some flies I have been eyeing my birds feathers he keeps dropping and decided to use one today to tie what I think is my first halfway kinda legitimate fly what do you guys think yay or nay... I was making this with bass in mind hence the large size, and keep in mind I am look for something to use for eyes still...

in my experience unless you want that fly to be a top water fly you cant use the whole feather, the middle piece is way too buoyant. If its supposed to be a top water it might work, bass will hit anything.

its not really supposed to be anything I started off with top water in mind but ya I guess the body looks more like a streamer with the long tail

Well you should keep that fly unused and in a safe place for future reference and continue on learning to tie.
If you are serious about fly tying, you'll be able to look back at that fly years from now and see how far you have advanced and improved your tying skills while you are having a good laugh. Never get rid of your 1st fly!
As for your fly............I'll give you an 'A' for effort and the interest you have shown us.
If you want to learn a bit more about fly tying, find a fly tyer who is willing to teach you some basics skills, practice often and don't give up in frustration. Learning those basic skills will certainly open up a whole new world for you and be more satisfying to you.
You've done pretty good just showing us your first tied fly.

Imagination is was makes good flies. Great imagination. That and presentation.

When I created the "Dog's hair special", I kept in mind the basics and rudiments of fly tying, yet let my imagination go. Now, that is my top producing fly.

Keep it up!!!!!
