    The place to be...

Hi Thanks for the post and nice pics. I'd be guessing.... but I'm thinking that little guy you caught, is a small Atlantic Salmon. Being an hour from TO substantiates it. was the tail quite forked and the fish more slender than most? Good luck and tight lines always! Fly Guy

    Upper Humber River

Was up there last year. took a walk in the creek and got stuck in the river bottom. Was there for an hour. Scary! Be careful with that...I had to leave a wader in the river and was happy to get out. The water was about 15" deep Flyguy

    Kathryn's Fly Fishing Video

, Beautiful Ouananiche you had on! Looks like you had a great trip. I was in Labrador in '69, and we caught some trophy Brookies, and Ouananiche. I'm not sure exactly where we were.... an hour by float plane east of Schefferville. The Ouananiche, landlocked salmon, are maybe the best...

    Small Atlantics

Really! Nice I'm only familiar with the Atlantic Salmon stcking program in three trib rivers, and I haven't seen any fences or such. Just signs indicating catch'n release Atlantics. But then, most sporstmen release all of their catches. I know I do. I know a lot of people out there who aren't...

    Small Atlantics

Well Frank, they're not migratory. They're simply stocked Atlantics, that haven't reached maturity yet. They're a hungry, and race the rainbows to the flies. I'm sure that everyone's familiar with the stocked fish in the three rivers that hold them. I think that all fly fisherman should take...

split shot on a 3 wt? too heavy

I know most wets and streaners are made of heavier materials. They just don't get deep enough, say in a 4' pool. Weighted leaders sounds like the answer. Thanks for the feedback

split shot on a 3 wt? too heavy

I'm using lightweight fly rods, 3 & 4 weight. Their great for dries and short upstream casting North Country wets, but I can't negotiate getting my nymphs or streamers down deep with split shot. It's just too difficult, casting with weight. Just curious, what line weight everyone else is using...

    Small Atlantics

Hey all Was out East of TO, had a good time again with small 'bows and some Atlantics up to 10" Those salmon are going to be a great sport fish in a couple of years! Has anyone caught any bigger ones yet? Tight Lines All!

    small trout on the fly

1 wt?? Oh yeah! That's gotta be fantastic....I was out this morning, had a good time again with small 'bows and Atlantics. I'm wondering when those Atlantics are going to grow, and how great it'll be getting into a 2-3 pounder. Now, a 10" Atlantic feels wild. I caught and released several of...

    small trout on the fly

I've been to a couple of popular rivers near Toronto. The rivers are low and clear, but the small trout 5-9" are loving my wet soft hackles. I've pressed down my barbs and the fish are surviving nicely. So, I'm moving down to a 3 wt. Fenwick. The 4 wt is good, but I want to feel the tugs and...

    Opening day at the tribs

Was at a zone 17 trib yesterday. The weather was great. The water was a bit high, but very fishable. Steelies were hittin' roe, and I was using egg-sucking leeches and San Juan worms. I had on four nice ones, never landed a one! hahaha I was using my 7 weight fly rod and had a great time. When...

Crystal Meth??? what's that about? Can you specify? Fred

    nymphs' for rainbows next week

Yeah, I'm glad for that advice. The only point is; I find it difficult with a 5 wt to use a lot of weight. This week-end I'll use my 7 wt. and can fish easier with heavy split shot, and have a better chance to land some 5 lb. ers with a heavier rod I know they're at the bottom. Fred

    nymphs' for rainbows next week

Hello all, I'm glad to be here. I'm a new member and I'm looking forward to nymphin' steelies next week-end. Anyone have any suggestions? stone-flies, crayfish, streamers? Any thoughts or suggestions for a happy opening weekend would be appreciated Fred
