Hey all
Was out East of TO, had a good time again with small 'bows and some Atlantics up to 10"
Those salmon are going to be a great sport fish in a couple of years!
Has anyone caught any bigger ones yet?

Tight Lines All!

I just realized that is a really important discovery! Imagine being able to fish for salmon atlantics in the summer months is something I'm going to look forward to as well! Did you inform John from the CRAA? They would be very interested as well.

Well Frank, they're not migratory.
They're simply stocked Atlantics, that haven't reached maturity yet. They're a hungry, and race the rainbows to the flies.
I'm sure that everyone's familiar with the stocked fish in the three rivers that hold them. I think that all fly fisherman should take care not to hurt them and carefully release them.
They are going to be a lot of fun within the next 5 years!
Good luck!
Fred

Yea, I've been reading and hearing about the stocking efforts to bring the Atlantics back. I'd hope they keep them strictly catch and release. I'd hate to see meat hunters use this as a summer opportunity and waste away the efforts put in so far.

I remember going to one of the east tribs and they had setup a sanctuary for them with fences and all.

Young kids 2 days ago showed me a pic of 5-7 pound Atlantic from one of the rivers. Caught on a spinner, released to fight another day. Was very impressed with their knowledge and hsitory of the fish for such young guys. Theres hope yet for future big runs if we all show care in releasing these young fish. Especially in the heat mortality will be high if care isn't taken.

Really! Nice
I'm only familiar with the Atlantic Salmon stcking program in three trib rivers, and I haven't seen any fences or such.
Just signs indicating catch'n release Atlantics. But then, most sporstmen release all of their catches. I know I do.

I know a lot of people out there who aren't well-read on the different types of fish, are probably keeping them, but with their forked tail, thier easily recognizable

Last year, my son did have one on with a Mepps spinner, at the Credit, about 1 1/2lbs. It was a great fighter, so, imagine a 4-5 pounder on a 6wt fly rod?...:))
I can only imagine what a great gamefish they'll be in a few years.
Can't wait!

Thanks for the feedback
Fred
