Port Credit: Salmon “pier” fishing tips for noobs

KO wobblers have given me some success. Also blue fox glow spoons are decent too.

Heading out to the pier this weekend.

The west end piers have been extremely quiet so far this month. I have been out at least 7 or 8 times and have not seen any salmon bigger than a pound caught. It should be any night now though.

    Beads above hook?

How do you guys secure the beads 1-2 inches above your line? Do you just tie them on or let them move freely up and down the line? Thanks salmonman

    St. Croix Avid

Hey Kingslayer, Yeah that is pretty strange to see two dead browns together. I have seen some pretty beat up looking males near the end of their lifecycle that are just barely holding in there, guess there happened to be two at the same time? I got out last night and today for some browns...

    St. Croix Avid

Hey Kingslayer, I actually got my 10'6 at Burns Tackle here in Burlington. Last time I was in there I think he had another one in stock. Awesome rod. Salmonman

    St. Croix Avid

I just bought a 10'6 Avid this fall and was using it for pier fishing for salmon. Great feel, light and durable. Plus you cant beat the lifetime warranty either! I was also running 20 pound Pline on mine with a Shimano Stradic and it seemed to fit well together. Enjoy the rod! salmonman

How Many Rods Have You Broken?

I broke one this morning, 10'6 shakespeare intrepid. Wasnt even a good story behind it. Took it out after about 6 years of being in a closet, went to put it together and the middle section of the bottom shaft just cracked. I loved that rod, my first noodle rod. Also a friend of mine broke...

    Migratory browns

Yes with the larger tribs, especially the ones you are referring to on the south shore, the Browns are in there early and can be caught almost any time of year, But for the smaller western tribs this is my experience. Salmonman

    Western Pier tonight

To be honest I didn't look that closely. Just glanced over to see that it was a salmon. Pretty dark which is to be expected. Sorry Salmonman

    Western Pier tonight

Howdy all, Just thought I would get the word out there that there are still a few salmon to be had off the pier. I went out tonight for a few hours and saw a couple of chinnies landed with a few more still jumping around. I was hoping for some trout but no dice. If anyone out there is still...

    Migratory browns

In my experience out west the browns start showing up around the river mouths pier heads heavily following the first frost. I dont know what the correlation is between the frost and these fish but it has seemed to hold true for the years i have been fishing them. Now that being said I always...

    Bait Caster for float fishing

I use an Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 5600 C3 for floating too, works well with the free spool and you will never run out of line on it either.

    Your Pier Poison

I am chucking spoons. I have always used cleos and Pete Spoons. I just bought those Moonshine spoons this year and hope to have some luck on them. I have seen them take a few already so I know they work. Salmonman

The big dude must have been in a few hockey fights judging by that fighting technique.

When fishing for salmon from shore...

I use an 8.5 shimano clarus or a 9.5 berkley specialists baitcast rod with either an abu garcia ambassadeur 6500 or 5601 level wind with 12 pound mono on it. I usually toss 3/4 ounce cleos or Pete Spoons, also J13's or Canadian Wigglers later in the season. Good Luck! Salmonman

Goby fish at lasalle park is phenomenal !!!!!!!

Ive always found fishing 3-4 feet off the bottom with a float usually keeps them off. You get the odd adventurous one that will come up and check out your bait, but a minnow or good chunk of worm under a float will usually help you hook into some jumbos or bucketmouths at Lasalle. Tightlines...
