SS I don't own a float setup since it is not a common method of fishing here in NS. My plan is to swing and drift flies but if that is not working i may explore the bead technique......to each their own.

Thanks guys,,,so on a fly rod set up i would have my indicator, then some split shot....then the bead followed by the hook ?

I see a lot of people using beads which appear to be tied 1-2" above the hook. Why is this versus closer to the hook?.....and does anyone use this setup when fly fishing? I am New to this style of fishing and will be visiting in mid October from NS.

I will settle for anything that will give me a tight line :) I am a C and R fisher so not going to kill anything. Just looking to get some fly fishing therapy while visiting the inlaws.

I fish the marabou flies a lot in Nova Scotia for Fall Atlantic Salmon. Glad to see these will work for me when i visit in Mid October. I am a big fan of rabbit strip muddlers as well in bright colours. The Canary Muddler and some of the fish it took

Coming from the east coast and fishing the Credit and Bronte last year I witnessed some of the situations being described here and was a bit in shock. You guys have a great fishery already but it could be epic if the salmon were not to be killed just for the roe. Seeing these fish float down...

Thanks Rybak! I use big foam mice for the Browns in Nova Scotia. Think they would work on the Salmon or Trout in mid October?

Looks like I will be visting the inlaws again this fall and will be there from oct 15-25... Will the salmon still be in the West Tribs mid October? I will be fly fishing and 100% catch and live release so hope to find a few hours to target the Salmon and Trout

I tried Pier fishing with my fly rod last week while i was around a West trib. They were jumping like crazy and it was amazing to see but none were hooked when I was there. When I see Atlantic Salmon doing this in NS they are trying to get the sea lice off but probably not the case in Lake...

The Gapse is a great spot for Atlantics but there is a lot of private water and people pay big money for it. There is some public sections as well but i personally have never fished for them in Quebec.

It does have similar features of a Brown but Atlantics in the fall turn this color after they have been in the fresh water for a few weeks. There are several distinct differences between an Atlantic Salmon and a Brown though such as fins, mouth, spots etc. Google will provide the differences in...
