upstream baby....i usually let it bounce at the bottom. i use single hook spinners though, less snag. and smaller size. i usually get the hook up when i retrieve from downstream...i cast downstream when using crawdads....PUMP KNOWS said:Question when throwing spinners...

Net is always better if possible (rubber is best to protect the slime coat), this way you can keep the fish under water while unhooking it. If you had to bank it I would go with mud, less for the fish to hit it's head on, but grabbing it while in the water is a much better option. When holding a fish you should hold the tail firmly and support the weight of the fish under the pectoral fins with your other hand, keep the fish out of the water only for a few seconds at a time to get the picture then release. To release the fish DO NOT push and pull the fish, simply hold the fish facing into the current to get water flowing through the gills until it swims away.Shawarma said:I don't have any issues being called out on something like this but there needs to be more from those that know how to handle the fish better in terms of educating the noobie.
Regardless of how a fish is landed there seems to be someone that says it's wrong. Do I net it to avoid banking it or getting it to the shallows? If there was an option of mud, stone or gravel, what's my best option?
Of all the fish I saw get landed that way, I didn't see a single one go belly up all day. So what's the deal here? What does one do?
Honest questions. Nothing more.
nice fish chrisChristopher K said:With that out of the way I managed to get 3 beautiful steelhead Saturday, the first was at midnight and I wasn't able to get a picture but here are the second two. It really surprised me that most of these fish were fresh, not many drop backs around yet.
the first was on the fly. And the last on the pin.
Haha looks are always nice - a pleasant personality is important too. I tried befriending an uglier girl once, thinking that a meaningful relationship (plutonic or sexual) could arise from a good friendship. Well I was wrong, the entire ordeal was an exercise in bad decision making, and it turned out her "looks" matched her "personality". The only thing I learned from it was if something looks like sh*t, smells like sh*t and acts like sh*t, it's probably not gold, it's probably sh*t! Never give someone the benefit of the doubt.Knuguy said:Can't just go by looks. If you're looking for a GF consider using this ad:

Dang Salmo, it's like asking to hook up a silver steelhead, a brown & a 5 lb speck all in one pool....salmotrutta said:Only trophy gals for me from now on. She's gotta have the looks, the brains, and the personality
