I was on a trib last weekend (won't mention the name) and there were still lots of salmon. There were only about 2 fresh salmon the whole 5 hours i was there. I used different flies, roe, and a spinner. It seemed like these fish were just too far gone, because i would have my bait right in front of them, and not a single take. At one point a 25lbs fish beached himself so i waded across the river, revived him, and sent him on his way. There were only a couple people got a fish. A guy walked past me, gave me a few tips, and said you basically have to float your bait into their mouth and set the hook. Is that true? Should i just pack up the salmon rod and put her in the basement for the year? Any help appreciated. Also is it just too late in the season, and the salmon are just not very aggressive and pretty much dead? Thanks,

Cat

At this time it's pretty late in the season for them and I'd just leave them alone and let them spawn. Good on you for reviving the one that beached itself.

The guy that gave you the "tips" was basically telling you to floss/line them. Don't do that.

Don't pack up your salmon rod.
Go steelhead fishing.

Thanks, i can't let beautiful un-spawned beasts like that just die by beaching itself. There were three dead ones in the same spot so it must have been confusing spot for some reason. I've never been holding a salmon of that size before so it was really neat for me.

The nastier the better!

Bad weather = vast amounts of agressive steel.

Get out there and freeze your ass off and get soked!

Where i live we have gotten about 4 inches of rain this weekend and about 2 inches already this morning lol. Not sure if i want to go to the
_____ river in 40 km wind and 45 km gusts. How about you?

Spent a hour at a local trib this morning.Completely blown!!!If this rain continues it'll be a couple weeks till we can get at it again. Can just imagine the amount of steelies blowing by.

Yup just got back myself, cold and wet and noone else fishin!. Cept one guy with the fly. Hooked into a big black boot. no steel this time

Salmon arent much fun to fight at this time of year. Best just to leave em alone and drift roe at the tailout of the pool for hungry steelies!
