I can't imagine ID being that difficult. There have been a number of photos of grilse in the West (reliable FB profiles). They look sort of similar in the lake (shiny, streamline, bluish cheeks, some spots...), but not THAT similar.

It's hard to imagine a self-sustaining Atlantic Salmon recovery happening without a lot of stream restoration and a lot of dam/reservoir removals. But having grilse show up at river mouths is definitely not out of the question.

Lol been doing this a long time. I can tell the difference between a brown and an Atlantic. Not arguing that resources should be spent on stocking. Id prefer a king over an Atlantic any day. Just a way different fight for me to keep it interesting.... Just saying that I do get them and always in tight at times you would not expect them to be there.

Thanks TI. Can you please expand on this for everyone's benefit?
1) "No chance of success at all" - is that just some good old time common sense speaking? Or is that based on measured temperatures at specific points along the spawning route that will be too high in mid-summer? Possibly some scientific studies that not everyone has access to?
2) "Just a guaranteed paycheck for the inner circle": is this a part of OPSEU? Can you please give some specifics?

I saw posts from several charter boats complaining on Facebook about catching them last year. Charter boats are getting them, pier casters are getting them and river anglers are getting them. Every year the numbers have been going up.

In addition to that the Kings had record setting catch rates in 2017 so i'm not sure what the complaining is for? It is estimated that 50% of the Chinook in Lake Ontario originate from natural production so it is actually better for the fishery to scale back on stocking to see if Natural reproduction can take over.

Also, alewife numbers are down which is the major reason stocking of Chinook salmon has been reduced. Even the US have been cutting back stocking numbers over the past few years and they are now stocking 40% less than they used to. 2018 was a good year for alewife and they hope to bring stocking numbers back up after the alewife rebound. Of course the internet is full of science deniers who say they saw lots of bait on their sonars so that is conclusive evidence in their mind that there is no issue with the alewife population.

I planned on leasing 2 mile blocks on both credit and Ganny.
Than force you guys to have a guide at all times and charge 750.00 min. each to drift a fly for a couple hours.

Different people have been chirping about atlantics for more than 30 years. They first stocked them in 1986. It's always been "just 5 more years." Then 5 years later, there's still zero returns, and zero reproduction. So they do another study and say it will be just 5 more years. Again.

You guys honestly think you'll be down at Erindale with your spey rods in August catching these things? You know, when its so low and clear you can see every rock on the bottom? And its running at about 20 degrees C?

Keep dreaming.

Atlantics are disappearing every year from absolutely pristine rivers in Norway, Scotland, Iceland and Labrador, places where they have ideal habitat and no competition from browns or steelhead or chinooks. Yet you guys think they will somehow magically start spawning in the Ganny or the Credit? Hahahahahahahahaha!! Yeah, right. Not going to happen. Believe what you want, but reality says something else entirely.

Well Yesterday they were Browns?? Right?? Today they are Atlantics?? Tomorrow a Sturgeon maybe?? They are there!! I catch them, and I like the mix. I don't give a dam about spey fishing for them. I don't give a dam about float fishing for them. I kayak troll and I catch them.... Good enough for me.

I'm seeing a good percentage of reports with Atlantics in them. It doesn't matter though, discussing Atlantics is more partisan than politics.
