Are there salmon runs on the pier/river in Bayfield? I caught a few small mouth bass there over the summer, but it looks very salmon/trout friendly. :)

Yup, I'm pretty sure the water level will be pretty low right now, so not too sure how far they would be able to make it. The rain today will definitely help.

Yup...watch the conditions though...it's prime right after a rise in levels and a rain, otherwise it's an aquarium...

50% chance of rain everyday this weekend - if we get some I'll be heading to bayfield sunday to check it out.

In the meantime I'm having too much fun getting Salmon on the bronte!!

think im heading up sunday myself unless i can convince a buddy its worth the trip to the north shore of lake O tribs coming from London Bayfield is much closer...thoughts?

I just went up today from 10 - 2 the water level is extremely low and a little murky no one was having luck so I would recommend waiting until after a big rain but if you are going to go up anyway i would recommend using spoons/ spinners or roe at the pier or use flies or roe/worms just walking upriver from the mouth. I saw 2 salmon or trout but I only caught chubs/shiners and little suckers.

I live quite close to Bayfield, and have fished there fairly frequently of late. I have not seen anything jumping, so I am guessing the salmon are still out in the lake waiting for the water temperatures in the river to drop and the levels to rise. We have had a good amount of rain this week, but the ground is so dry it absorbs most of it. I am hoping to head up today at some point.

As to the original question, yes there are salmon and trout that run up the Bayfield river. Quite a good run normally. I got too busy to fish for the last couple of years, but am back to it now. Right now it is overcast and raining, but according to the radar that should pass soon, maybe I will head up then.

The Salmon have started to come in at Bayfield. I was fishing today, and saw about 5 rise to the surface, and a person with one on the line. I didn't get any, but they are starting to come in.

Caught this today in Bayfield. A good 40+ minute fight. I thought it would be much bigger, but it is still much better than being skunked.

Nice fish and thanks for the updates!
Were you at the pier? Are you float fishing or throwing spoons and crank baits?

That was off the pier, and I got it on a silver spoon with a blue side. For a not very big fish it put up a good fight. I wish I could have stayed longer, but one is better than none. When I got there their were no other people there. A couple more arrived after I had been there 15 minutes or so. While talking to them the fish hit. I almost missed the hook set due to being distracted, but I got it in nice and clean on the top jaw. The fish fought for 40-45 minutes, and I am guessing my arm is going to be sore. I am really glad I brought my long rod as it would have been more difficult to land him with something with less give.

Congrats, looks like a nice fish. I am heading up that way this weekend to try my luck. Where did you get that one, the pier or back by highway 21, and what did you use to catch it :)
I think i am gonna take my kids up and let them try thier luck, i want to see the look on thier faces when they lock into something like that

Thanks
Dale

Haven't had much luck with spoons but I always toss them for awhile.... I've had more action with J-13's.
Always have to mix it up I guess.
