Best BASS Fishing Lakes in Ontario

I've had very good luck on the Trent river just in between Hastings and Campbellford. Right beside Lake Seymour.

Lots of rock bass and sunfish too.

It would be very nice if you could give us more precise location, for instance, how about a Google map of the spot that you were fishing at - that would be very much appreciated!

I was there first week of August last year. Used a simple worm with a bullet weight (1/4oz), braided line, baitcaster, med-hvy. and just fished from a dock. Literally there were fish jumping out of the water hitting flies on the surface. I lost a decent size Large mouth there and it still haunts me. managed to get it to the dock but when i went down to get it forgot to tighten the line...beginner mistake. Won't let that happen again. I actually caught a turtle too at night using a DEAD goby (i killed it after catching it on my worm). Oh yeah theres lots of gobies here too. Good food source for the smallies and apparently turtles too.

This does help, thanks a lot. It looks like drive of about 2 hours for me, but if fish is biting that much, it might be worthwhile

You have to find a public area. I was on private property when I was there. That area is like a retirement area and I didn't see anyone else fish that water at all. That means more fish for you!
Odds will be better if you have a boat and can drive it up there from a launch. But you'll need a good trolling motor, the current is pretty strong there.

I don't have a boat thats why i haven't gone back there.

Even though i didn't catch any monsters, there were tons of perch and rock bass, smallies, largies, walleye, muskie. Plus the cottage and boat rentals are really resonable, a lot cheaper than anywhere in Muskoka and most of the Kawarthas.

Smally's are always a great fight and usually fly out of the water as soon as you set the hook. Sometimes you dont know you only have a 2pd smally on and think its a walleye or something. Ya the Trent is a nice spot, no question. Have you hit up the Bay of Quinte towards the telegraph narrows>? Thats some amazing fishing if you have a decent boat, the water comes in from Belleville and filters through a large channel to Deseronto, and sometimes the water can get really choppy, and the wind can be really strong. But I have seen many days its almost like a sheet of ice on the water down their. Great spot you should give it a try sometime.

We rented cottages at a place called The Reel Retreat. Nothing fancy, but right on the water, great price on the cottages and boat rentals, bait shop. Plus, you can see musky lurking for perch under the docks and carp wandering arouns the boat launch at night.

Forgot to mention, it's about a kilometer down river from the locks in Hastings, so if you wanted you could pop into Rice Lake. I found though that the area on the Trent is pretty quiet (and as a result under-fished), no boat raffic except for guys in their yachts coming through from Rice.

ya i think im going to plan a trip up thier this summer, did you go in late july? just trying to get a good time for everything up their. It should be a good time, talked the father inlaw into taking his brand new rv down, its so nice, so it will be far from ruffing it thats for sure.

Great photos, and great info indeed! Just a quick question, it seems that people who went fishing there - were fishing from the boat. How about fishing from shore. Is it any good, is it worthwhile driving there just to fish from shore? If yes, any good spots to recommend - input would be very much appreciated.

I've been to Lake Eugenia a couple of times - the first time we had a boat that we rented from one of the cottages there, and the second time, we fished from the shore because the cottage no longer rents out boats.

We tried a couple of areas when we were shore fishing last year, including the area to the side of the big dam. You have to walk around behind the dam, through some wooded area and up some steps to get there. We were fishing in late August and didn't have any luck there.

But there's a bridge on the south end of the lake (I believe it's the south end, I may be wrong) where you will see a small number of people gather towards sundown. It's in this place where we've had major success both times - the fish will gather here at around sunset, and it's a total bonanza. The first time we went fishing here, I lost track of how many fish I caught. Granted, many of the fish we caught were small, but there were a couple of bass that were a few pounds, and I took one of them home.

We were fishing with worms and had moderate success, but there were these other guys there who bought some hot dogs (Red Hots) from Food Basics for 99 cents, and were using the little bits of hot dog as bait. They were pulling in fish on every cast. It was insane.

I have some pictures that I took off this bridge if anyone's interested.

lol, was your buddy wearing the slip on sandle's or toe thongs? either way both are worth the public humiliation,lol.
I think i will check this spot out this year sounds like it would be alot of fun. I have heard of guys catching fish on hotdogs before but mostly mudcats, not bass, weird.
You should check out the post on a guy making a lure out of a carrot and catching a pike, crazy... i guess if the fish are their they will hit anything.

Lake simcoe is a smallies dream. but some nice largemouths as well. I was on a private lake in the Muskoka`s I think it was called Lake Mackay. Small, no powerboats on it. I caught 13 lm bass one day and 13 lm bass the next, That was my most productive fishing trip ever. But i dont see that guy who owned the cottage anymore...too bad!

Ya that sucks, I know what its like though I new a guy who owned a beautiful cottage, he let me fish their all the time. He passed away and shortly after his family sold the cottage, It was a big fight with the family over who got it and they decided to sell it and split the money. It was a shame cause he would have wanted everyone to just enjoy it, but money can be an evil thing, tears some family apart.
