Date: Thursday May 22nd, 2008.
Time fished: 6:30pm~8pm.
Location: Bronte Pier, Oakville- ON
Condition: Overcast, with unpredictable gusts of wind.
Water still very cold, but it is Lake Ontario.
No weeds, just a mixture of sand and rocks.
Temperature was 14 degree’s but felt much colder with the wind
Weapons: 8” light action Ugly Stick, 10lb line & a yellow 5 of diamonds spoon size 4.
Comments: I started out using a couple jerk baits and had no luck but saw some fish breaking the surface, decided to switch it up and try pitching a spoon out because the wind was not in my favour and I knew a spoon would cut threw it like butter. This rod is amazing tons of action, but still has the stability to muscle a fish away from anything that could potentially break line or cause you to lose the fish. Their were 3 guys on the Pier all had been their a long time I gathered from their runny noses and snot covered sleeves, lol. No one else caught anything while I was their but I guy fishing the same side as I was, (the inside of the Pier heading up Bronte Creek) had quite a few hits using a shad rap. I was on my 4th or 5th cast when I had a really good bump, that was no question a fish as I was retrieving my spoon quite fast, I slowed the retrieve and BAM! Fish On!
The brown jumped as soon as I set the hook, and then took off towards the open Lake with tons of energy, I played him at least 10mins, and for awhile I though I might have snagged a carp because I could not move him.
I gained control and at this time and I had all three guys waiting with a net to get a glimpse of what I had on. After a very sloppy net job we had it on the pier and after a quick picture I released this fish and it swam away unharmed.

The pictures were taken with my KRZR, seems to do the trick don’t you think>?

Fish was not harmed during this battle and was released!

Excellent!

Where can I buy one of those 8 inch rod? (8")

Also, you have said there were other fishermen, what were they targeting? What bait/lure(s) were they using ? Were they all fishing AT the pier or all over the place?
These little things are the things I would like to know.

Btw... picture quality is alright but no match compare to mine! hahaha just kidding.

once again, that's a beauty brown...
i've yet to land one myself. :)
great to hear that it swam away unharmed too.

Lol, 8' sorry Mikey, lol.
Ya the other guys were fishing the Pier as well, they were using small shad raps' and the other guy was using some kind of worm harness, looked like a catfish rig.
I think they were basically fishing for anythung they could catch.
Ya the camera does the trick, but I sometimes bring my digital if im going with someone so they can take a pic.
Yuppers fish was fine, I used the net to put him back in the water and held him their until it was ready to go, took maybe 45sec's in the water adn it was gone like a bat out of hell.
It was a great day for sure.
On another note I was at Window to the bay, its a place on Lakeshore that I have given directions too in the flaces to fish from shore topic. Tons of sheephead right on shore, just feeding on the bottom. I was casting for the elusive Pike but nothing, I saw at least 20+ in the 3hrs I was their.
Anyone know if their spawing soon or if this is just a good feeding hole?

Hm. I thought it was trout , bit this one was "thick", got me fooled by that

ya it was a big fatty no doubt, caint wait to catch more fish like this in the summer. I am getting a canoe or kayak soon and im sooo excited. That pretty much opens the door to tons of new spots i dont even know about.
Soooooo excited
chris

Do you plan on visiting the spot again ?

Maybe once bass season is open. As I have seen small mouth bass cruising around.

Ya its only 10mins from my house, I have been eyeballing some ohter spots to the west of me though. I can really go anyday. If your interested in going sometime Let me know, I pretty much play it by ear were Im going most of the spots I know of I know whats their and when their biting, alot of word of mouth my way too, someone has a good day and I find out from my local bait store.

Well... keep us updated on the fishing conditions.

Like when people start casting spoons for salmon

i want to start as early as possible this season.

and any other species people are targetting.

Np man i'll let u know as soon as i find out.
i heard about a pong that has been stocked with sunfish, pech, crappie, bluegill, and I guess has the odd bass and carp in it. Its by RBG in burlington and I guess now is open for fishing. I plan on taking my ultralight and camera and trying to see hwats really their and hitting. I'll have a complete report together after that trip for sure. Seems like it would be a great spot to take the little ones that would garantee you a spot for fish.
