Camping and Fishing 2014

Hi guys,

I'm looking to do some fishing/camping for the 4 long weekends in the warmer weather of 2014. I have a small aluminum boat and motor and I would be leaving from Toronto. Can anyone guide me in the right direction to find some kick-butt fishing and camping within 4 hours from Toronto. I've been camping at Silent lake the last few years but the fishing there is horrible. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated... also if anyone else wants to come, the more the merrier. Our first weekend will be May 16th, 17th and 18th returning on the holiday Monday.

Ya - Algonquin would be my suggestion... not that much further than Silent Lake either. Lots of the bigger road access lakes have launches and you are allowed to have a motor boat on them. Thats a good time to go... borderline black fly season but that all depends on the year. Trout fishing is in full swing... brookies, splake and lakers = good times.

Ya, I want to try to get the spring lakers. The park is so big, it's hard to tell which campgrounds I can access with a vehicle and also launch a boat. I've read that Opeongo Lake is the most popular spot for trout but I dont see that lake having developed campgrounds. If anyone has actually gone to one of these lakes camping and can forward me through a link, I'd appreciate it.

I've never fished Opeongo but from what I hear thats where you want to be. Stopped by there this year to pick up a permit and there was a lot of guys heading out in their motorboats. Its a big lake that can whip up pretty quick and it holds some giant fish - most of the big lake trout photos in all the outftters in the area are from Opeongo. Not sure about developed sites on Opeongo but you could always stay somewhere close by and make the trip to Opeongo. Good luck out there... I can't wait for my annual Spring park trip...

All around Parry Sound area is ok fishing and good camping. You can camp all round the G-bay, good pike and bass fishing and a ok chance at walleye and maybe a musky.Camping wise on the Gbay shoreline is good, lots of drift wood for fire and lots of small islands to stay on. just watch for snakes.

Or one of the rivers, Moon, French, Pickrel ect...... Once again Bass Pike and Walleye in most cases, camping is also good.

I would have to agree. Parry sound is one of my favourite spots because its huge so more quiet but sometimes the fishing is a little tricky because over the past few years I haven't found much cover for the bass as its mostly rocky but the pike and pickerel are always a nice touch.

Parry Sound area is an amazing summer destination. Killbear offers fully loaded camp grounds and monster lakers - we were getting some pigs with downriggers and jointed Rapalas... had a giant straighten out the treble and we also lost one of the riggers to an underwater island :lol: French River is one of the most beautiful places I've been to - however the campsites are only accessible by watercraft, have a fire pit and thunderboxes... nothing else. If you are into canoe or boat camping there are quite a few sites along the Pickerel River. Lots of water to explore, but I've never fished it.

I would say Kilbear near Perry sound. I have been to Algonquin a few times with not much luck on the fishing front. Correct me if I wrong on this post I might not know where the fish are. I mostly caught Smallmouth bass and Trout when I was in Algonqiun . But I have herd from other folks that the fishing isn't so great there.

try Haliburton Highlands...from personal experience easy SM to be had in the summer and some lake trout also.

you can stay in a park if you want to, but there are sites within 2 km of Massasaga Park sites that are free to camp on. and there is allot of of crown land Around and north of Parry Sound. SO I NEVER pay to camp, I see the point of it but being from the area I am spoiled to know of good camping spots.

On a Side note: When I go )CAMPING( meaning I am going for me, not a family or larger group trip, I head up north of sudbury, I found a nice spot up there about 280 Kms north of Parry Sound, Splake, Brookie, Rainbow, Browns, pike walleye, and Smallmouth all within 5 to 15 min walk of the campsite.(5 lakes) Up in Fishing unit 10 where smallmouth is open all year now

ALGONQUIN!!!, sorry have to agree with everyone that said algonquin, amazing camping and man are the specks fat there! Also in the spring you can even get them from shore! even in rivers, I'm talking specks 4 pounds+!!
