Is this canoe the same one you had???

Noobs, my dentist goes into remote areas of Northern Quebec every year and they take three Colemans in, fly em in then paddle to an outpost after 2 weeks then they leave the Colemans to the local native band, they take a knocking. My canoe I got off a guy who builds em in Toronto just off the 401 with his dad in a tiny hole-in-the-wall shop. It is tiny, what i wanted, 10 - 11 feet and it was about $550. I love the lil guy!

I like my Grumman Aluminum canoes they are practically maintenance free and easy to make welding or riviting repairs to I have a 17ft@80lbs , 15ft@65lbs, and a 13ft@55lbs.
A friend has a Kevlar Souris River 17ft Quetico@50lbs they are very popular here with outfitters in Quetico & Boundary Waters Park for their lightness, speed and stabe design.
During this time of the year you can usually pick up a used canoe cheap from the outfitters or right from the manufacturer.
If I remember correctly there are entire books devoted to helping the first time buyer...but the best way to decide is to get in one...most outfitters allow you to test them out! :)

Would you be so willing as to pm me the name of the shop/guys that you got your canoe from?? Thanks.

10 - 11" is that a one fatman or 2 skinny dudes canoe?..........lol. Whats it made of?

I just checked and apparently if any motor is attached (regardless of size) you need a boating license.

I called Bass Pro Shop and they dont issue them anymore as of yesterday but i think you can get them online for 50$

Fishing float tubes are great. They have storage, a measuring strip, take up little space and are pretty comfortable. Have to use flippers for movement but great for a day on the river (and some free exercise). However, you can't attach a motor of any kind. They're so affordable and can buy a few if you plan on fishing with a partner. I plan on purchasing one because some times I like to go fishing solo...

Those look cool but i cant find a spot to place my big tackle box lol

I hate lugging around my big tackle bag...
I just bring some essentials & lures/bait relevant to what I am fishing for (or wear a vest for additional storage)... for me, light fishing makes for more enjoyable fishing.

I have to agree with lightness. I have the Ol Pal tackle box, when opened it used to take up half of the bench on the boat! What was I thinking when I bought this monstrosity....lol. Put that in a canoe and you are living dangerously. Now it's just storage of extra lures and hooks. When ever I go fishing usually I'll only 60% of my tackle gets used if even that much, I bet in the most cases I'll only use 30% of the lures I bring. Everything else is just added weight.

Get an old town Saranac 146XT from bass pro shops. Seats 3 people, good quality, backrests built in, low price. I have one and I love it.
$579

I've been looking at these, i like the fact they have the back rests. I was on a boat few weeks ago without one and man my back hurt!

It is made of "Thermoformed polyethylene". Is that aluminum , Kevlar or fiberglass?

This is very pertinent to these matters:

$10 gets me to the middle of the lake... and back! =) Multiple times!

It is a strong plastic that i believe they use to make chevy corvets out of. If you hit a rock or something, the plastic will push in and then pop back out to its original form and push you off the rock. If you need any more answers about the old town I can probably answer them.
