Centerpin Line

I am a bit confused with the two-swivel setup. I have both swivels below the float, but the problem is moving the float down, below the top swivel is not possible.
Here is my setup
------main line------float-------first swivel----------shot line--------------second swivel-----leader-----------hook.

Is this OK or the top swivel should be above the float?

who ever is not using a high vis line doesn't really need a shot line. i use pink line and still don't run a shot line. I have one swivel above my float and another one just above the leader. Just make sure u leave it at the deepest depth that u fish.
so the way i have my set up is ------main line------swivel-----float-----main line-------second swivel-----leader-----------hook. lol everyone's got their own you'll figure it out

that's what i use and it works for me. honestly i still haven't lost any floats running this set up just gotta make sure your diameter of your leader is a bit more smaller then your main. example my main Diameter .011” and my leader is .007” or .006”

are you guys using mainline for the section with the float on it? how often do you break off above the float ?
Nope
Just like FD has in his post nothing on the mailine. Everything goes on the shot line which I like to use 6 lb Trilene XT to slide the shot up and down to adjust to diiferent levels.
BTW the mainline I like to use is fireline crystal and this is the only time I use this line.
J

Main line (crystal)-------swivel-----shotline(XT)----float and splitshots-----swivel----Flouro----to hook.
With this setup I cannot recall the last time I lost a float

There's no doubt about it, you will be a little limited with the two swivels but i find it works best with the first swivel above your float. swivel---- main line--- float---shot--- swivel--- leader--- hook. I never use a shot line, that would put me into a third swivel because i never learned to tie line to line...but that's just me.

I'm new to float fishing, but the reason I use a shot line is that I use the smaller sizes of split-shot (B or BB?) and find it very tricky putting them on. So I do it at home with pliers and on a surface where I can find them when(not if) I drop some of them. I'm guessing that folks who don't use a shotline don't have the same problem that I have getting the shots on the line, or maybe they use bigger sizes? I'm using small because that's what I've seen other floaters use.

i use sulfix line 1 swivel never have problems but i do rip out all the line every 2-3 year put on new stuff on my spincast reals i replace every year baitcasters well braided line i pull it all off and put it back on real in reverse was wondering how line like power pro would work on center pin for main line thow

Basically this is the arrangement to follow; the main line with the float can be a shot line if you want it to be (I use a shot line)...it is very important to know the depths that you are going to fish...
I decrease the test line as I go along; #10 main line, #8 shot line, #6 leader....this works for me as I have gotten snags many times on the shots on bottom structure that can't be seen from the banks...so I break off on the shot line and not somewhere on my main line.
If you intend to fish somewhere like Niagara where you have deep water, then you would want a slip float above your shot line and swivel, so you can get to the depths that you want...

What Brian said: because of the hi vis main line I run the float on what I called the shotline. I also stagger the diameter so that I reduce how many floats I lose on snags. You are limited to how deep you can run by the length of the shot and leader lines you run so you need to be aware of what depth of pools you will be fishing and tie accordingly. If I need to run deeper I just tie a longer leader on, its running shallow in small streams that this is more of an issue. I also ignore the rule I heard about not running shot on your leader line, I have never had the leader break at the shot and I like to run a long leader so for propper shotting I have no choice.

I find that the berkely sensation does float, however, I normally (unless I am drifting on a big river like the credit) try to have all of my mainline off the water. It gives me better drift control and is one of the reasons the top swivel reduces twist, it allows the line to untwist while drifting, and also prevents the line from twisting when bringing the float in.

BTW I cursed myself with my first post. I went 0 for 6 last night, lol. I had my mainline break for the first time ever (I didnt strip any after fighting fish in a wood jammed stream during the opener and obiously missed a knick) and then lost a big one because I was too lazy to switch to .20mm leader from .165mm when fishing murky water conditions.

Alrighty Guys,

I think I might start using a second swivel now... with a shotline... and a hook :)

Still would like to know of a decent high vis line to switch to, doesnt sound like "sensation" is getting good reviews.
Not sure where to pick-up "ande" line...
Anyone else have any suggestions?

I saw a line a couple weeks ago with absolutely NO english on the box, all japanese/mandarin/chinese writing.
It was high vis yellow. Guy at the shop told me that its a high quality float-fishing line... anyone heard of a product like this?

Hoping to hammer them tonight after this rain yesterday... Stripped about 50yd off my reel...

I only know of a few places that carry the "Ande" line, that are relatively local...
1. Al Flaherty's
2. Angling specialties
3. Fish Heads
4. Gagnon Sports (I am not 100% certain on this one)

I try and keep it simple. I use no swivels, just 8lb main line to a 18- 24 inch floro leader with bb that are hand pinched on to the main line. Make sure the bb are the ones with out the tabs to open them (round in shape), otherwise these alone can cause some major line twist. A Drennan float and a good quality hook and your set to go.

The knot I use to tie lines together is called the Seaguar knot, very easy and fast with good strength. Here is the link: http://www.seaguar.com/seaguar-community/seaguar-knot.htm

I too only use small shot but i don't have a problem putting them on at the river and i don't use pliers to put them on...i'm afraid of damaging the line, i just put them on with my fingers and if you put them on just right you can actually take some off if conditions should change.

Doesn't work for me, with my eyesight and big fingers

Out of curiosity, how long does it take you guys to completely retie? I find myself losing valuable fishing time cause it takes my ages to tie swivels, and especially put on the shot. Does anyone pretie leaders and shot line and if you do, how would you store it/ transport it while on the river.

I know while downrigging, my grandfather had a plastic device that held leader line together.

Any suggestions?
