Centerpinning slow drifts

here you go, found your problem.
that explains the uneven clicker, nothing is wrong with the backplate or shaft. the guy who changed the bearings messed them up, or they were wrong size.

Wow, looks like it. But does that explain why one part of the spool wants to rest closer to the ground than the other? Surely that can't be because of the bearings?

your bearings are out of shape, thats why the spool is not parallel to the plate, thats why you hear the clicker only half revolution.

think about a turning bicycle wheel after hitting the curb.

If I wanted to flip them around out of curiosity, how would I remove them both without damaging them further? I wouldn't want to start hammering away at the inner bearing to get it out :S.

spray some wd40 and leave for couple of minutes, then push them out with pencil, just don't push the center, push the outside walls of the bearing, do it slowly and gently, keep pushing in circles until it slides out.

It was done by Angling Outfitters in Woodstock, Ontario. I will be giving them a call today.

They told me the spool was warped and then said that there was no way it could be heavier on one side than the other because it was "machined". Then they proceeded to tell me to bring it in so they could look at it, but the bearings had nothing to do with it.

I'd caution everyone to steer clear from that store. Doesn't sound like they stand behind their work.

Is that who you bought it from? Or private kijiji?

No I bought it from private kijiji. Doesn't matter, if the bearings are bad and they did the work on it... do the math.

edit: I think they probably botched the repair and decided to give it to the guy I bought it from thinking he wouldn't notice. Watch out guys! There's probably a whole armada of these Angling Outfitters botched Aventas on classifieds LOL :p

The guy I bought it from has agreed to take it back and give me my money back. So he's really straight up.

Ive only heard good things about Angling Specialties, have you actually brought them the reel to show them yet??

Maybe im just crazy but when I looked at the second video you posted it didnt seem to be spinning all that badly.

I have a sheffield and im pretty sure there isnt all that much difference between the sheffield and the Aventa. It doesnt matter what reel you have if you are fishing in frog water you are going to have to manually play out some line unless you happen to have no wind that day effecting your drift. My sheffield spins for over 3 minutes no problem when it is clean so if you cant clear a minute of spinning time then you definately have a problem but from what I saw in the video it looks fine.

In the second video I have taped a few BBs to the inside rim of the spool. It looks normal after I taped BBs on... that itself isn't normal! LOL

How do you know if it was done by angling outfitters? the guy who sold the reel in good working condition told you that?

do you still take his word that its in good working condition? if no, why you still think it was done in the shop...

Most definitely done at this shop. They do a lot of Aventa bushings to bearings conversions. Google Angling Outfitters in Woodstock. The seller said it was given to him by Joc at Angling Outfitters.

he sold you damaged reel saying it was in good working condition. you should not believe anything he says after this happened. the fact that the store does changes does not prove anything. can he prove it with the receipt?
imo it was done by the seller himself and without experience he messed up the reel and put it for sale.

I am in agreement with this...

You get what you pay for.. Buy right the first time.

I may have gotten duped, I knew that from the first time I noticed the issue in the balance of the spool a few posts backed. I still want to learn more about what happened to this thing. It could be the bearings or it could be the whole spool is warped or it could be both.

why dont you just take it into angling specialties....no brainer

You got it off kijiji where you went to meet the guy, look at it, Inspected it with eyes closed, decided to buy it, agreed on a price and paid him. Done deal. If you knew or discovered the problems then you should have refused to buy it, or fix it and not bothered the seller about it, cause it really is your fault not his. Ever heard of buyer beware (caveate emptor)?

If you got it off ebay then it's a different story. Seller can over exaggerate it's function and condition.

I've bought a Diawa reel off of kijiji, seller said the bail won't close b/c of lost spring and cover, plain and simple. I went, looked at it and for $10 knew I could fix it and did. After making a return spring and a bail cam it works fine, I just did not make a replacement cover for it yet. You probably saw me using it on Mike's boat on Rice.

Being a frugler is not just buy the cheapest crap around only b/c it's cheap. You still have to know what you're getting yourself into. You're lucky seller is giving your money back, I think that's very decent of him to when he's really not obligated to.
