Not wanting to disrespect anyone, but I have to admit I have a beef with the practice of certain ethnic groups who are basically polluting when performing whatever ritual it is they do at the river. If you need to give an offering or whatever it is please don't dump your crap in the river-this ain't the Ganges. I even find coconuts walking beside the river with my daughter along with offering plates and other trash. Your religious beliefs don't supercede our laws regarding polluting.

I found it peculiar when I saw a coconut by the river bank. That is something I use to see in Hawaii, but it made no sense in Canada. Now I understand.

I wanna know what river. That can only mean some hula dancer is running around top less......lol...OO Oh yeah.

i have seen the nuts too, i thought they were some type of plant that grows in the rivers, i never did open one tho to see what it was...

Lol, good luck finding topless hula dancers even in hawaii. Funny thing is, I was quite young and ignorant when I went to Hawaii. Sitting on the plane I was expecting to see little grass huts and stuff like that. Pretty disappointed when I saw how developed Oahu was. The only hut I saw was in the international market selling souvenirs. I know a few places in the gta that has nude ladies doing the modified hula with a pole if you guys like to see. :D

laugh out loud-----this post made me piss my pants

we have these in our river as well--i actually watched a dude do it, freaked the poop out of me sseeing him to begin with--he was carrying all of his kit to dump into the water---i said to him i understand the coconut and fruits but you know the cloth and stuff doesnt go away--it gets stuck in a bush somewhere down river---he didnt care--to them everything is the Ganges....lolololol--one time i found what i thought would have been a great kettle for camping--iwas told there might be human ashes in it--i went home.may bwe should remind them that the water is the same as your crapper---so take a chunk of cocnuts and grandmas ashes and stand in a circle around the toilet...this is a serious issue as we have to respect the reason for it however it is considered something we affectionetly call "littering" here is Kanata.

madriver and i were contemplating whether we should crack open a coconut and have a tropical treat lol..

from what i understand an offering of some sort to nature--again not an issue just do it on your own property---or place or worship--i promise you if you call the city less than zero will be done about it--- imagine the uproar that would cause to ask someone to not litter as a part of thier religious process--welcome to Canada folks--

I don't remember what year the Dalai Lama visited Toronto but I was fishing in lake Ontario off the wave breakers and seen the Dalai Lama and his monks perform a ritual by the bank and actually dump live fish into the lake. I'm not saying they were invasive or what not as I didn't see the fish. I was a bit away from him but new it was a fish and it was a live. About 6 or so were dumped. I was the only one at this spot on the lake and when he arrived I was crowded out. Couldn't even cast with the amount of people around me to see this ritual. Dang you multicultural Ontario! Ruined my fishing trip! Kidding of course :) It was interesting to see.

t count your blessing that trout arent holy...we would be fishing for coconuts instead,,,

With all the political correctness of today, even if a C.O. see a person doing such rituals, I wonder if the officer would do anything. It's sad to see the law makers bend over backwards, to cater to the few with the biggest mouth, while ignoring the rest that play by the rules.

Reminds me of the Monty Python bit in Holy Grail, maybe a swallow gripped it by the husk and dropped it there...I guess coconuts are biodegradeable no harm, it's the other litter and just assuming you can dump things in the river
