You should take the plastic WARRANTY wrap off your rod lolol.

I have a good chuckle every time I see the Canadian tire Salmon crew out on the river.

I'm sure a lot of people on this site are thinking what I am... Ignorance is bliss I guess?

Nice fish, I would definitely consider that a nice hen. I tend to consider them "shakers" when they are under 20".
I love catching them around 23".

Protect the cork handle? lol...

I fish my kingpin with the neoprene case on it..

Casting is a bitch though..

Love the name drop. I heard walmart is starting to sell kingpins and islanders. Guess that makes you part of the walmart salmon hunting crew.

now now sisters......lets keep it above the waterline

Lol, trying too, just hate ignorance. Dont judge people on the gear they're using, who wants to drop 700 $ on a "good" set up when you can catch just as many fish with a 300$ setup. I'd rather put the difference towards the OFAH, or ringwood. I think we should go down there one day soon GBD and use 30$ Wally world specials and see if we can still catch fish like usual.

lol thats my plan for opener home slice a minnie mouse fishin magician made for kids... i know what ur saying about the float reels snobbery....thats all it is i paid 150 for my float setup and rarely get outfished in the GTA unless there is some other northern boys around. Did you get that pic i sent you of the BEAST?

its all personal preference if u can afford to go big why not?if u cant then fish with what u can, i'm tired of all u guys judging guys with higher end equipment gee. and yes both catch fish

youre right drifter it is kinda stupid.......i guess there is still a part of us that are still that 6 yr old kid in the playgound saying my marbles are better than yours. I would love to have a kp and know a rep up here personally but cant justify spending even on a discounted one...besides i already had a $600 float steup and it got boosted out of my truck in the spring good thing i had 5 years of use on it before it happened. I guess part of it is for me is having the upkeep of a boat and trailer plus all the ice fishing equipment and driving a pickup keeps me pretty poor. I get the snobbery to....when i guy walks onto jobsite with a 50dollar skill saw isay to myself WTF is this??? but does the fact my Makita worm drive is over $300 make me a better carpenter??? like you said get the best equipment you can afford and skill can make up the difference.

I hear you brother. The canadian tire comment just rattled me a little. Our sport is expensive and frustrating enough as it is, no need to pick on someone's gear or apparel, pretty low blow.

Not to throw petrol on the fire brothers--BUT...thought to jack my own post for purposes here...What did Blair say??? "Pole and reel...?" Euphemism for broomstick and bailing twine LOL.They are merely tools n'est pas?? If you can do an AC or KP, good on ya, but as GBD says: few are the guys who can out-fish the "fishy" ones...

I'm about sick to death of gear heads and tech heads jumping at the first offering of a "new and improved" (or ABEC 17's, better yet ABEC 30's!!). The debates, argumentation, and posturing about gear and OVERPRICED float reels is ridiculous.
YES!! the price of some float reels is grotesque (this isn't interstellar technology folks)--I've just about had it, it's an insult given how much some of us have to work to afford this stuff.

Example: you might want to consider that in order to purchase an absurdly priced AC reel (a piece of turned aluminum) at the criminal price of $1,200 YOU WILL HAVE TO EARN (BEFORE TAXES) $2,400!!!

I'm OUT!!!
CC

Its a little blown out of proportion, but to each his own. My only beef is the ones who go 'round thinkin' they're the shiz 'cause of their $1,000 reels, you know the types that wouldn't even talk to someone on the creek because they're using a spinning reel. 8) RIGHT ON COOL GUY!

Guys:

I just bought a back-up float reel--you know, the ones from e-bay--$75.00 for a TF Gear (nicely machined, beautifully opened up back plate, spins nice). I LIKE IT!!
So does Mikey...and he doesn't like anything...

I think most of us go fishing to relax, spend time alone or with friends or loved ones, de-stress, soak in some rays, and enjoy the water whether it be a creek or lake.

Nothing wrong with expensive gear, but also nothing wrong with cheap gear. I use good old Canadian Tire and Wal-Mart gear exclusively, because I have other expensive hobbies that consume much more of my disposable income. Nevermind the cost of gas.

For the Fall of 2011, I found hooks at Dollarama, 90 pcs for a buck. They were sturdier than the Matzuo hooks I was using on opener.

I took a few guys out for their first steelheading experience in the fall and taught them all how to catch steelhead. We each caught our fair share. I've only ever used $30-$40 spinning outfits, and they were enough to get me onto more trout than I could ask for and be able to share the experience with others. I'm not bragging, there is nothing to brag about because catching them is not rocket science.

Yeah I agree with everything everyones said but I just wanna add that not everyone with high end expensive gear is loaded or snobbey. Im basically a broke first year university student but I personally feel that when you buy something, invest once so that it lasts you. In the long run buying and replacing cheap outfits will add up and youd probably be better off with one solid outfit that will last you for a lifetime.... Plan on having a loving relationship between me and my set up until I go into the grave

Thing is, centerpins don't have much that break on 'em, lets face its, its a spindle with a bearing on it, I mean, I may be wrong, but an upgraded ABEC XX has the same mechanical function ( minus the clicker ) as a 400 dollar Islander, 1,000 dollar "whatcha ma call it" as a 100 dollar upgraded, ABEC XX CP, so really, where does the difference come from? Fair trade and name... Some guy who gets paid 45 dollars an hour to make it vs. a guy whos makes 10 dollars a day making 'em... point is, if you feel a 1,000 dollar CP is bettter for you, so be it, nothng wrong with that... I personally want to buy an AngSpec, but thnking I'm superior over the guy with an Okuma Aventa, forget it. I've run into a fair number of people like that, and I consider myself a good judge of character, even though I'm messed up beyond repair  . Look at the resale value of these highend CP's, you buy it for 1,100 and sell it 2 years later for 900... some guys resell these things for the same price they bought it for! Its like fishing for free!
