I am pretty new to fishing and the reason why I would like to use heavier line is because I thought most salmon grow to be heavier than 10 pounds.

I've landed several on 8lb line fluoro. The salmon I land at the mouth was with 12lb fluoro. All of the salmon I've caught this year are 17lbs+.

Keep in mind that you are not lifting the entire weight of the salmon with your line. You just need enough pressure to turn the fish around. When it runs, let it run. Just put enough pressure to keep the hook firmly set in its mouth.

My issue with line

Is anybody interested in going tomorrow?

Can someone suggest a good rod/reel combo that would work for casting spoons at the mouth, as well as float fishing up river? I'm leaning towards the Shimano Saros 4000 reel but still unsure of what size/model of rod to get.

im going tomorrow at erindale park under the bridge if rain gonna stop i have 10ft rod only and daiwa shock reel i use to fish in mouth of port credit im newbie also in river fishing .. welcome aboard  dont worry you are not the only one newbie in river heheheheh

Good luck in fishing tomm I am pretty sure it will be flooded with all the rain we got. I will take 3-4 days after the soaking we just got.

would it be better to fish the mouth?
I've read on here that fishing after a big rain improves the conditions ... is that only for the initial run?

The rain triggers runs up the river, but you gotta wait till it clears up a bit. Thats when it's deadly

carp!

Which months?

I've caught them in summer and fall, I guess any time. You can also catch sheepshead, I caught them by lakeshore. The catfish are also of decent size. And tons of suckers in April.

I've only seen one dead catfish floating on the water over the summer. Which part do you catch carp, sheepshead and suckers?

Lower stretch. Come on mang, get your rod, some mepps, and worms, and just explore.
Well I can't really explore , beacuse I live near square one and I am 13. But I will start looking for good spots soon for those fish when I catch a salmon first.

make sure you go with a group of friends or family..... if you are inexperience with the river please wear a life jacket.

Go during the middle of the night, that way nothing bad can happen since you'll be the only one there.
